Position Description
Contract Graphic Designer:
Technical Template Production
Reports to: Lead Designer
Location: Remote
Role Summary
Primoprint is seeking an experienced Graphic Designer with strong technical and production skills to help build and expand our customer-facing design template library across our print product catalog. This contract position combines graphic design, technical template production, file setup, testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance. The designer will own assigned templates throughout their lifecycle, from initial artwork and editable template construction to testing, platform upload, and post-launch troubleshooting. This is not a traditional creative-only graphic design role. While strong design skills are essential, success in this position will depend equally on technical aptitude, Adobe Acrobat expertise, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently take ownership of completed work.
Key Responsibilities
Designers in this role will own their assigned templates from concept through implementation and ongoing support.
Responsibilities include:
• Design professional, customer-facing artwork for Primoprint's online template library.
• Create designs across a wide range of print products, including business cards, postcards,
brochures, flyers, booklets, signage, flags, marketing materials, and more.
• Build completed artwork into functional, editable PDF templates for use on the Primoprint website.
• Determine and configure the appropriate editable fields and functionality within each template.
• Ensure editable elements, fonts, images, positioning, formatting, and other template components
function correctly.
• Test templates thoroughly before they are uploaded to the platform.
• Complete required template setup and see assigned projects through the upload and
implementation process.
• Perform quality assurance on your own work to ensure templates meet Primoprint's design,
technical, and production standards.
• Maintain consistency and accuracy across different products, sizes, layouts, and template
variations.
• Troubleshoot template and file issues independently after becoming familiar with Primoprint's
systems and processes.
• Investigate customer-reported issues involving templates you have created, identify the source of
the problem, and make necessary corrections.
• Investigate customer-reported issues involving templates you have created, identify the source of
the problem, and make necessary corrections.
• Maintain responsibility for the quality and functionality of assigned templates after launch.
• Manage assigned projects, priorities, revisions, and deadlines with limited day-to-day oversight.
• Collaborate with the Lead Designer and other Primoprint team members when additional technical
or creative input is needed.
Required Technical Skills
This position requires a designer who is equally comfortable with the technical side of design and template production as they are with the creative process.
Candidates should have:
• Advanced proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, including a strong working knowledge of PDF files, \
editable elements, form functionality, and troubleshooting.
• Ability and willingness to install, learn, and work with Adobe Acrobat plugins and other specialized
tools required for template production.
• Advanced proficiency with:
◦ Adobe Illustrator
◦ Adobe InDesign
◦ Adobe Photoshop
◦ Adobe Acrobat
• Strong knowledge of file types, file structures, fonts, image resolution, color modes, bleeds,
margins, and other print-production requirements.
• Strong general technical aptitude and an ability to learn unfamiliar software, plugins, systems, and
workflows.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues methodically, identify potential causes, and work toward
solutions independently.
• Experience working with editable PDF templates, PDF forms, variable/editable content, or similar
template-building technology is strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working in a Mac environment.
We will provide specific training on Primoprint's template-building process and systems. However, candidates should already possess the technical foundation and problem-solving skills necessary to become increasingly independent once trained.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is helpful but not required:
• Minimum 5 years of professional graphic design experience.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating professional design work across a variety of styles and
applications.
• Experience designing marketing assets such as business cards, postcards, brochures, flyers,
booklets, signage, and other printed materials.
• Strong understanding of how artwork must be adapted across different sizes, formats, products,
and production specifications.
• Print industry or print-production experience is strongly preferred but not required.
Attention to Detail & Quality
• This role requires an exceptionally strong eye for detail.
• The person in this position will be accountable for ensuring their own templates are accurate,
complete, properly configured, thoroughly tested, and functioning as intended before they are
made available to customers.
• This includes attention to both visual design and technical details such as editable fields, fonts,
positioning, spacing, file setup, consistency, print specifications, and template functionality.
• We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing complete, accurate work and who does
not rely on another team member to routinely identify or correct issues before a template is ready
for customers.
How You'll Work
We're looking for someone who is self-directed, organized, technically curious, and comfortable taking ownership of their work. There will be collaboration, training, and support, particularly while learning Primoprint's template systems and processes. Once trained, however, the designer should be comfortable managing their assigned work, troubleshooting most issues, and moving projects forward without constant oversight.
The ideal candidate:
• Works independently and manages time and workflow efficiently.
• Takes ownership of projects from beginning to end.
• Has strong organizational and project-management skills.
• Communicates clearly and professionally in writing and verbally.
• Is comfortable receiving constructive feedback and incorporating revisions.
• Approaches problems methodically rather than immediately relying on others for solutions.
• Knows when to troubleshoot independently and when an issue should be escalated.
• Is comfortable learning new software, technology platforms, plugins, and processes.
• Can balance creativity with technical requirements and production standards.
• Experience with project management platforms such as Asana is a plus.
