Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support a large-scale IT modernization and transition project for the State of South Carolina.
The Technical Writer will work closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Technical Directors, Developers, Business Analysts, SMEs, vendors, and other stakeholders to create clear, professional, and high-quality business and technical project documentation.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deliverables and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Business Analysts, SMEs, developers, and technical teams to understand project goals, requirements, and technical concepts.
- Create high-quality business and technical project artifacts and supporting documentation.
- Recommend appropriate documentation and deliverables based on project discussions and analysis.
- Translate complex technical information into clear and understandable documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Organize, write, edit, and maintain project documentation.
- Create and maintain visual aids including diagrams, charts, presentations, and other graphics that improve understanding.
- Review and revise documentation as project requirements, processes, or issues change.
- Support the organization and maintenance of project documentation within SharePoint and other document repositories.
- Work with multiple internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to gather and organize information.
- Manage multiple documentation deliverables while meeting varying deadlines.
- Maintain consistency with established templates, formatting standards, and branding guidelines.
- Provide clear written and verbal communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of related IT experience, including experience developing structured written materials and visual aids.
- 3+ years of professional technical writing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to write, edit, and prepare graphic presentations of technical information for technical and business audiences.
- 3+ years of experience working with Microsoft SharePoint.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Visio
- Experience working with templates, style guidelines, and document/branding standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to organize complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with multiple teams and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Experience creating Advanced Planning Documents and/or Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Understanding of Lean and/or Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with Bizagi.
- Previous experience working in a government environment.
- Experience working on large-scale IT modernization or transition projects.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have strong technical writing skills combined with experience working in IT project environments. They should be comfortable communicating with technical teams, business stakeholders, project managers, vendors, and executive-level audiences.
Candidates should be able to quickly understand complex processes and technologies and convert that information into accurate, professional, easy-to-understand documentation.
