Position Overview
DataSoft Technologies is seeking an experienced Technical Writer – Consultant to support a large-scale MMIS transition initiative.
This is a complex technology modernization project focused on transitioning existing MMIS systems and related applications to a modern, service-oriented architecture in accordance with CMS guidelines. The project requires experienced professionals who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment and consistently produce high-quality work products. Clemson - 13857
The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with Project Directors/Project Managers, Technical Directors/Developers, Business Analysts, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), vendors, agency teams, and other stakeholders to develop clear, accurate, and well-organized business and technical documentation.
Documentation produced in this role may be used by the internal project team, executive management, agency staff, vendors, CMS, and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working independently, able to manage multiple deliverables with competing deadlines, and capable of translating complex technical information into documentation that can be understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.
This role is particularly suited for someone who is comfortable working on a complex, change-oriented project where ambiguity may be common and team members are expected to contribute with minimal supervision. Clemson - 13857
Essential Responsibilities
- Work alongside the Business Analyst/SMEs and technical staff to understand the goals/objectives of the project in order to assist in creating deliverables and supporting project documentation
- Provide recommendations on deliverables to be produced as a result of analysis/design discussions
- Work with technical staff to make deliverables easy to understand
- Organize and write supporting documents when needed
- Select photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts that increase users’ understanding
- Revise documents as new issues arise
- Aid in organizing and maintaining the project’s SharePoint and other document repository
The role requires someone who can take complex information from multiple stakeholders, organize it logically, maintain documentation as requirements or project needs evolve, and help ensure project materials remain clear, consistent, accessible, and professionally presented. Required Knowledge/Skills
Candidates must meet the following required qualifications:
- 5+ years of related experience in IT including experience in a position requiring development of structured written materials and visual aids
- 3+ years of technical writing experience
- Ability to write, edit, and prepare graphic presentations of technical information for both technical and business personnel
- 3+ years of experience with MS SharePoint application
- Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and working with templates and style guidelines for branding consistency

Preferred Requirements/Skills
- Completed Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in writing Advanced Planning Documents and/or Request For Proposals
- Understanding of LEAN / Agile development style
- Experience with BizAgi
- Experience in a government environment

This position is best suited for a Technical Writer who can move comfortably between technical teams, business stakeholders, project leadership, and external partners. The successful candidate should be able to gather information from multiple sources, determine the appropriate documentation approach, simplify complex technical concepts, and produce polished deliverables without requiring extensive oversight.
Because this is a large transition initiative, candidates should also be comfortable with changing priorities, evolving requirements, and working within a project environment where not every answer will be defined upfront.
