About Sail4th 250
Sail4th 250, the New York and New Jersey component of Sail 250, a five-port consortium creating tall ship events in New Orleans, Norfolk, Baltimore and Boston, is the official high-profile international tall ship and government project formed to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States. As a major
component of a nationwide endeavor, Sail4th 250 will host tall ships over the weekend of July 4, 2026. The six-day celebration, July 3-8, will be the culmination of a multi-year platform of storytelling, events and diverse celebrations around the nation.
About the Role
Sail4th 250 is seeking a creative and highly organized Social Media Manager to serve as a part-time consultant from January through August 2026. This role will play a key part in building awareness, growing audiences, and driving excitement leading up to—and during—the Sail4th 250 events in July followed by writing a recap report on the year’s activities.
The ideal candidate is an experienced storyteller who understands how to build momentum over time, promote large-scale public events, and engage audiences across multiple social platforms.
Key Responsibilities
● Develop and implement a social media strategy for Sail4th 250 in collaboration with the marketing communications team
● Create, schedule, and publish content across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok, in conjunction with the social media/marketing coordinator
● Write engaging captions and calls-to-action to promote events, announcements, partnerships, and ticketed or free programming
● Recommend paid promotion as needed
● Manage day-to-day posting, monitoring, and audience engagement
● Collaborate with the Sail4th 250 team to plan content calendars tied to key milestones, vessel announcements, and media moments
● Support countdowns, campaign launches, and increased posting frequency leading up to and shortly following July 2026
● Provide real-time or near-real-time content support during events, as needed
● Track analytics and prepare concise performance reports with recommendations for optimization
● Ensure brand voice and visual identity are consistent across all platforms
Qualifications
● 2–3 years of professional experience managing social media for brands, nonprofits, or events
● Strong writing skills and an ability to translate complex information into engaging, accessible content
● Comfort with basic design, video and social media calendar tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, CapCut,
Later or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite
● Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to work independently
● Experience promoting live events, festivals, or cultural programming strongly preferred
● Interest in maritime history, public celebrations, or large-scale civic events is a plus
Engagement Details
● Part-time consulting role, January–August 2026
● Flexible schedule, with increased hours during peak promotional periods and event weeks
● Compensation structured as an hourly rate, based on experience and scope
● Reports to Sail4th 250 Marketing Director, and works closely with the Sail4th 250 staff, including the Marketing Coordinators, Board and other marketing communications consultants.
