Role Description
The role of photo editor is a freelance position, available wherever you are in the world, in which the successful candidate will be responsible for creating editorial content designed to captivate and inform an international audience with a passion for photography and visual storytelling. On a day-to-day basis, this role involves researching and writing photographic essays, artist profiles, interviews, reviews of exhibitions and books, as well as feature articles on topics related to contemporary photography and documentary photography.
The photo editor will work closely with the editor-in-chief to structure stories, refine the pairing of images and text, and ensure consistent adherence to the magazine’s tone and standards. Their responsibilities will include proposing story ideas, conducting interviews (both in person and remotely), fact-checking, and revising content based on feedback from the editorial team.
This role also involves keeping up to date with trends in photography and attending exhibitions and events.

Skills
- Excellent writing and editorial skills, ideally with experience in journalism covering the arts, culture, or photography.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary and documentary photography, including key photographers and movements.
- Ability to conduct research, synthesize complex information, and develop insightful articles and reviews built around strong narratives.
- Experience conducting interviews and writing feature articles or in-depth stories that effectively integrate visual and textual elements.
- Excellent command of English.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, meet deadlines, and follow an editorial calendar.
- A background in journalism, art history, photography, media studies, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
