Role Description The Freelance Writer role is a part-time remote position focused on producing clear, engaging, and accurate content related to animal behavior science and SFECA’s activities. Day-to-day tasks include researching topics in animal behavior, drafting articles, blog posts, and newsletter content, and adapting scientific information into accessible formats for diverse audiences. The writer will collaborate with SFECA members to highlight research projects, events, and the SFECA Label, and may assist with conference-related communications, such as summaries, interviews, and promotional materials. The role also involves revising and updating existing content, ensuring alignment with SFECA’s values of ethics, scientific integrity, and respect for animal welfare.
Qualifications
- Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to produce clear, structured, and engaging content in English (French reading ability is a plus).
- Experience with science communication or research-based writing, particularly in fields such as animal behavior, ethology, biology, or related disciplines.
- Ability to conduct independent research, verify sources, and accurately translate complex scientific concepts into accessible language.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools (e.g., content management systems, basic formatting, and document collaboration platforms).
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics, respect for animal welfare, and scientific integrity in all written work.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a remote, part-time freelance setting.
- Relevant academic background (e.g., degree in animal behavior, biology, journalism, communications, or related field) or equivalent professional experience.
- Prior experience working with scientific associations, research groups, or NGOs is an asset.
