Project Description (Freelance / PT – Ongoing)
The Freelance Web Developer is responsible for managing and implementing web content and functionality according to a Marketing Strategy and Brand Voice set forth by the Arts and Marketing Teams.
Working in collaboration with the Whitaker Corp. Web Management, this freelancer will exclusively focus on the customer-facing entity www.WhitakerHouse.com, requiring fundamental knowledge of front end programming and development. This web property serves not just as a buyer interface, but as the first “handshake” our guests will have with Whitaker House, its books, authors, management, and mission. Buy-in and commitment to this initiative makes a marked difference, even with our freelance and contract team members, as we create a user experience that serves a variety of audiences – authors (existing and potential), media reps, industry pros, and readers around the world.
This would require a balance of technical as well as artistic / creative skills, understanding the language side of dev (CSS, HTML, etc.), performance (UX, SEO), and cohesion with brand and house style, resulting in both form and function excellence.
Required Technical Skills
- Knowledge of CSS, HTML, PHP, Javascript, SCSS, NPM, and Gutenberg.
- Knowledge of supplemental elements such as Yoast plugins, pixels, UTM tracking. Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
- Experience in optimizing websites, design elements, and pages to adhere to Google core web vitals and accessibility compliance standards.
Preferred Experience
- Portfolio showing current or previous work in web development, programming, and/or design.
- Understanding of the User Experience from a variety of viewpoints and user types, working closely with the Marketing and Art leads to execute a streamlined journey that maintains both brand and engagement.
- Able to maintain and influence SEO as it relates to Whitaker House’s online discoverability and accuracy of digital snapshot.
- While this contract freelancer maintains a cross-functional relationship with several points of interest throughout Whitaker Corp, the singular responsibility will be to WhitakerHouse.com and the interests of the publisher, working closely with the Whitaker House Arts and Marketing teams.
Project Management
- Self managing completion of ticketing-style web requests. Able to track and manage larger projects for on time delivery and launch of added web properties.
- Support marketing operations and other teams as needed through the creation of landing pages, original design elements, and navigation.
Performance Objectives
Looking for a freelancer able to give a average of 10 hours per week on a consistent basis for the foreseeable future, with room for more as needed as as available per contractor.
