Communications Specialist (Contract)

Summary
We are seeking a skilled and creative Communications Specialist to join a design-led team focused on shaping an influential external social media presence. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day social media operations across platforms including LinkedIn and Instagram, developing platform-native content, and maintaining a consistent, compelling editorial voice. The ideal candidate brings strong storytelling instincts, sound editorial judgment, and hands-on experience translating complex design and technology narratives into engaging social content. This is a fully remote, full-time contract position with a strong chance of extension.
Job Responsibilities
- Own and manage social media channels including LinkedIn and Instagram, including editorial calendar planning, content scheduling, publishing, and community monitoring
- Write platform-native social copy and develop content concepts that translate design, technology, product, and leadership stories into engaging posts
- Create or coordinate visual, motion, and short-form video assets that align with brand voice, accessibility standards, and platform best practices
- Monitor social performance, audience sentiment, and platform trends, providing timely recommendations to improve content strategy and distribution
- Support executive social content development, including drafting and coordinating posts for senior design and creative leaders
- Collaborate with writers, designers, researchers, product teams, communications partners, and senior leaders to identify and develop story opportunities
- Manage approvals, stakeholder coordination, and multiple concurrent workstreams with reliability and sound judgment
- Respond quickly to launches, leadership moments, cultural conversations, and platform shifts without sacrificing quality or accuracy
- Deliver monthly analytics reports with clear insights and actionable recommendations to improve future content, formats, and audience strategy
- Ensure all content meets accessibility requirements and reflects mature, discreet judgment in sensitive brand or reputational situations
Requirements
- 4–5 years of experience leading social media strategy and execution for a design-led brand, creative agency, editorial publication, cultural organization, or technology company
- 3+ years of hands-on platform-native content creation across multiple social channels and formats, with a portfolio demonstrating the full content lifecycle from brief to publication
- 3+ years of experience with social analytics and audience listening tools, including performance optimization and data-driven storytelling
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Design, or a related field preferred
- Portfolio or examples of social media work required — candidates without a portfolio will not be considered
- Portfolio should demonstrate strong taste, editorial judgment, and the ability to tell compelling stories across social platforms
- Demonstrated experience shaping or supporting executive social voices, preferably for senior creative, design, or technology leaders
- Proven ability to balance planned editorial programming with timely responses to launches, trends, and cultural moments
- Strong editorial judgment with the ability to craft compelling, platform-native narratives from complex source material
- Excellent written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to adapt tone and format across social platforms
- Hands-on content creation skills spanning copywriting, visual briefing, and short-form video editing
- Proficiency with social media publishing, analytics, and audience listening tools
- Ability to interpret engagement data, sentiment trends, and audience quality metrics and translate findings into strategic recommendations
- Experience managing editorial calendars, approval workflows, and multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with design and technology culture, including relevant publications, communities, creators, and conversations
- Mature, discreet judgment when working on executive communications and sensitive brand or reputational content
- Comfort using AI-assisted tools thoughtfully, with strong human oversight and editorial standards
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills for working across multidisciplinary creative and communications teams

- Pay Range*: $33.50 - $38 per hour
- Weekly Schedule: 40 hours
