Content Producer / Videographer & Editor
Location: New York City / Hybrid
Engagement: Part-Time / Contract
Hours: 5–10 Hours/Week
Compensation: $25/Hour
Company: NextGen Coding Company
ROLE OVERVIEW
NextGen Coding Company is looking for a creative Content Producer / Videographer & Editor to film, edit, and publish high-quality content across YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Snapchat, and other relevant platforms.
The role is focused on real-world content production in New York City.
We want someone who can regularly meet with our founder/team, identify interesting content opportunities, film high-quality footage, turn raw material into engaging content, and help maintain our social channels.
We already have resources focused on UGC and AI-generated content. Your responsibility is to make our real-world filmed content look exceptional.
The ideal candidate combines videography, editing, storytelling, social media, and strong creative taste.
We want content with strong hooks, interesting shots, great NYC locations, modern editing, good pacing, sound design, and a polished but authentic feel.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
You will primarily own the filming → editing → publishing workflow.
Responsibilities include:
- Filming the founder and team in NYC
- Planning shots and filming sessions
- Capturing B-roll and environmental footage
- Editing short-form videos
- Editing occasional long-form videos
- Creating strong hooks and opening sequences
- Adding captions, music, graphics, and sound design
- Creating platform-specific versions of content
- Posting and scheduling finished content
- Repurposing footage across multiple platforms
- Organizing raw footage and finished assets
- Maintaining the content calendar
- Reviewing performance and identifying what works
- Capturing conferences, events, meetings, and company activity when relevant
You should be able to receive a general idea and figure out how to visually execute it without requiring a detailed shot list.
FILMING & CREATIVE DIRECTION
Filming ability is one of the most important parts of the role.
You should understand cameras, lighting, composition, framing, audio, camera movement, B-roll, locations, pacing, and visual storytelling.
Content could include:
- Founder-led videos
- Cinematic NYC footage
- Office content
- Conferences and events
- Interviews and conversations
- Behind-the-scenes footage
- Client/project stories
- Technology demonstrations
- Business and entrepreneurship content
- Day-in-the-life content
- Educational videos
- Company announcements
- Longer-form YouTube content
You should be able to walk into a location and immediately think about angles, lighting, B-roll, movement, backgrounds, and how to make the footage visually interesting.
We want someone with genuine creative taste, not simply someone who knows how to operate a camera.
EDITING & STORYTELLING
Strong editing skills are essential.
We want modern, high-quality editing rather than traditional corporate video.
You should understand:
- Short-form pacing
- Hooks and retention
- Captions
- Music
- Sound design
- Color correction
- B-roll
- Motion graphics
- Visual effects
- Screen recordings
- Transitions
- Long-form storytelling
- Platform-specific formatting
You should understand how quickly attention is won or lost online.
The first few seconds matter. Every edit should have a reason for keeping someone watching.
CONTENT REPURPOSING
One filming session should produce multiple pieces of content.
A 30-minute founder conversation, event, or filming session could become:
- Several TikToks
- Instagram Reels
- YouTube Shorts
- LinkedIn videos
- X/Twitter clips
- Instagram Stories
- Longer YouTube content
- B-roll for future videos
We want someone who thinks in terms of building a content library, not creating one video and forgetting about the remaining footage.
Good footage should continue producing value over time.
NYC CONTENT
The role is heavily focused on New York City.
You should be able to periodically meet the founder/team for filming sessions and capture content around NYC.
Filming could happen at our office, conferences, events, restaurants, meetings, streets, interesting locations, or anywhere else relevant to the story.
NYC should become part of the visual identity of the content.
We want someone who sees an interesting environment or moment and naturally thinks:
"We should film here."
Or:
"I can turn this into a video."
CONTENT OUTPUT KPIs
The role is approximately 5–10 hours per week, so we care about efficient production and intelligent repurposing rather than unnecessary volume.
Initial targets may include:
- 1 filming session per week or as needed
- 3–5 edited short-form videos per week
- 1–2 additional clips/variations from existing footage
- 1 longer-form video per month when applicable
- Regular posting across relevant channels
- Consistent organization of raw footage and finished assets
- Maintaining at least a 2-week content backlog where possible
One strong filming session should ideally generate enough footage for multiple posts.
PERFORMANCE KPIs
Performance will be evaluated based on both production quality and audience response.
Core metrics include:
- Consistent weekly publishing
- Video views and impressions
- Watch time and retention
- Completion rates
- Shares and saves
- Comments and engagement
- Follower/subscriber growth
- Number of high-performing videos
- Improvement in average video performance
- Quality and consistency of production
- Turnaround time from filming to posting
We will establish baseline performance and continuously improve from there.
Quality remains more important than meaningless posting volume.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT & POSTING
You will help maintain an organized content operation covering:
- Content calendar
- Upcoming filming sessions
- Raw footage
- Videos in editing
- Videos awaiting approval
- Scheduled posts
- Published content
- Reusable B-roll
- Performance data
You should know what needs to be filmed, what is being edited, what is ready to publish, and what footage can be reused.
The goal is to avoid constantly starting from zero.
WHO WE WANT
Your current title could be Videographer, Content Producer, Video Editor, Filmmaker, Social Content Creator, Creative Producer, or something similar.
Your exact title matters less than your work.
The ideal candidate is:
- Based in or regularly available in NYC
- Strong behind the camera
- A strong video editor
- Creative with excellent visual taste
- Familiar with modern social content
- Strong at visual storytelling
- Comfortable directing people during shoots
- Organized and reliable
- Fast without sacrificing quality
- Resourceful
- Able to work independently
- Interested in technology, startups, business, and entrepreneurship
- Familiar with YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and Snapchat
A traditional degree is not required.
Portfolio, creative taste, reliability, and execution matter significantly more.
COMPENSATION & LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITY
Starting compensation is $25/hour for approximately 5–10 hours per week.
The role is part-time and contract-based to start.
We are looking for someone who can work with NextGen consistently over the long term rather than completing a few videos and moving on.
Hours and responsibilities can increase as the content operation grows and the relationship develops.
APPLICATION & INTERVIEW PROCESS
Step 1 — Portfolio
Send examples of your strongest videography and editing work, including short-form and long-form content where applicable.
Clearly explain what you personally filmed, directed, and edited.
We care particularly about your ability to make real people, locations, conversations, and everyday moments visually interesting.
Step 2 — Creative Interview
Selected candidates will speak directly with the founder.
We will discuss your filming style, editing process, equipment, turnaround time, content you admire, experience filming around NYC, and how you would approach NextGen's content.
Come prepared with three specific ideas or shots you would want to create for NextGen.
Step 3 — Paid Trial
Finalists will complete a paid real-world filming and editing trial.
The trial may involve spending approximately 2–3 hours with the founder/team in NYC and capturing real material.
The assignment may include:
- One polished 45–90 second flagship video
- Two additional short-form cuts
- A selection of usable B-roll
- Several ideas for future shoots
- A recommendation for how the footage could be repurposed
We will evaluate creative taste, cinematography, storytelling, editing, hooks, initiative, speed, communication, organization, and independence.
We want someone who can be given access to the founder/company, recognize what is worth capturing, and turn ordinary moments into high-quality content people actually want to watch.
THE OPPORTUNITY
NextGen wants to build a serious media presence around technology, software, entrepreneurship, business, projects, people, and the process of building a growing company.
We want someone who can make the real-world side of NextGen look interesting, modern, polished, and culturally relevant.
The person should constantly be thinking about better shots, better locations, better hooks, better stories, and better edits.
Ultimately, we want someone who can become our reliable NYC content production partner and consistently turn what is happening around NextGen into great content.
