Company Description SPACES by Hollie Velten is a design studio specializing in thoughtful, highly personalized residential interiors, with a particular focus on kitchens and baths. Role Description The Contract Kitchen and Bath Designer will support the studio in designing and documenting residential kitchen and bathroom projects from concept through installation. Day-to-day work, which to start may be as little as 8-16 hours per week, includes developing floor plans and elevations, selecting fixtures, finishes, and materials, and preparing mood boards, design presentations, and specification schedules. The designer will coordinate with clients, contractors, and vendors, respond to project questions, and help troubleshoot layout, storage, and functionality challenges. Responsibilities also include site visits in and around Maplewood, NJ, measuring spaces, reviewing progress, and updating drawings or selections as needed. This is a contract, hybrid role based in Maplewood, NJ, with a mix of in-person collaboration in the studio and onsite and some work-from-home design and documentation tasks.
Qualifications
- Kitchen and bath design expertise, including space planning, cabinetry layouts, and fixture and finish selection.
- Proficiency with design and drafting tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Chief Architect, or similar) and comfort reading construction documents.
- Strong visual communication skills, including the ability to create presentations, mood boards, and clear design narratives.
- Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail when handling multiple projects and deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Understanding of residential construction processes, building standards, and typical kitchen and bath product lines.
- Experience in a residential interior design studio or similar environment; portfolio demonstrating kitchen and bath work.
- Ability to work independently in a contract capacity and commute to Maplewood, NJ for in-person meetings and site visits.
- Relevant education in interior design, architecture, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
