JOB TITLE: Media & Communications Coordinator
DURATION: Part-Time Role (15-20 hours/week)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Jahajee is seeking a Media & Communications Coordinator to help amplify our work through storytelling, digital communications and community engagement. This role will manage social media platforms, email communications and digital content while helping ensure consistent, values-aligned messaging across all communications channels. The Coordinator will work closely with the Jahajee team to elevate community voices, promote programs and campaigns, strengthen engagement with supporters and members and increase the visibility of our work to end gender-based violence in the Indo-Caribbean community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Email & Communications Management
- Monitor and manage the hello@jahajee.org email inbox
- Respond to general inquiries and route communications to appropriate staff members
- Track follow-up requests and ensure timely communication
- Flag urgent, sensitive or time-sensitive correspondence
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Manage Jahajee's social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook
- Create and maintain a monthly communications and social media calendar
- Draft captions consistent with Jahajee’s tone, values and messaging
- Design graphics, flyers and visual content using Canva and other design tools
- Schedule and publish posts, stories, reels and other digital content
- Monitor comments, direct messages, tags and engagements
- Track analytics to help inform strategy
Storytelling & Content Creation
- Gather stories, testimonials, photos, videos and updates from staff and members
- Develop and implement storytelling projects that highlight the impact of Jahajee's work and the experiences of survivors, members and program participants
- Create recap content following events, workshops and organizational milestones
- Draft newsletters and other public-facing communications
- Maintain organized archives of photos, videos, graphics and communications assets
Events, Campaigns & Public Visibility
- Promote workshops, community events, fundraising initiatives and advocacy campaigns
- Support communications planning before, during and after events
- Assist with real-time social media coverage at events when appropriate
- Coordinate photography, videography and content collection at programs and events
- Draft post-event thank-you communications and follow-up content
Website & Communications Systems
- Update website content, including events, resources and organizational information
- Support email marketing through Mailchimp and other communications platforms
- Maintain communications templates, branding materials and digital assets
Fundraising & Development Communications
- Support fundraising campaigns, including Giving Tuesday and year-end appeals
- Assist with donor-facing materials, sponsorship packets, impact reports and organizational updates
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to communicate Jahajee's impact to supporters, funders and community members
QUALIFICATIONS
Core Competencies
- Experience in communications, digital media, marketing, storytelling, public relations, community engagement or related fields
- Experience developing content that elevates community voices and advances social change narratives
- Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content
- Experience using Canva or similar design platforms to create promotional materials
- Experience creating or editing short-form video content for social media
- Experience using email marketing tools like Mailchimp
- Comfortable learning and navigating Google Workspace, Linktree (or equivalent) and social media scheduling tools (Meta Business Suite, Later, or Buffer)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently
- Ability to communicate about sensitive issues with a trauma informed approach
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events
- Clear and responsive communicator who is transparent about progress and needs
- Demonstrates emotional intelligence and communicates with care and respect
- Proactive, takes initiative and thrives in a collaborative team environment

COMPENSATION
This is a part-time position (15–20 hours/week) with an hourly rate of $25/hour based on experience. This is a temporary three-month position with the possibility of renewal and growth in scope based on organizational needs and candidate fit. The Media & Communications Coordinator will report to the Executive Director.
