Temp Casual Editor/Writer
Purpose Of Position
This position will write and edit content for publication in print and electronic media for CTS and its programs. Communication products will reach researchers, practitioners, policymakers, media, and the public.
Relationships
Reports to Communications Team Senior Editorial Manager for performance evaluation and guidance.
Responsible to Program Directors and Program Editors for projects and responsibilities.
The position appointment will not exceed an average of 14 hours per week. Actual hours per week and work schedule may fluctuate. A flexible work schedule will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor. Candidate will be required to perform all responsibilities from a location outside CTS office space and therefore should have access to their own equipment, including a computer and Internet access. Details regarding work schedule and other arrangements will be made upon offer of employment.
% of Time Primary Responsibilities
- 100% Writing and editing:
Write original, specialized content for print and electronic media. Work may entail reading a final research report, watching a webinar, or interviewing a contact, or adapting contributed copy for multiple media, formats, and audiences.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, or related field plus 2 years professional experience, or 6 years combined equivalent education and experience. Strong writing and copyediting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience writing for science-related publications.
Experience translating technical information for a broad, general audience.
Excellent time-management skills.
Familiarity with AP style.
About The Department
The Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) is a unique University of Minnesota center that conducts transportation research, education, and outreach programs in a broad number of areas. The Center currently operates with a total annual budget of over $22 million, and works with over 25 academic departments throughout the University. CTS consists of approximately 25 professional staff and 15-20 students who deliver the Center’s multiple programs. The Center is funded primarily through sponsored funds from local and national sources, and maintaining long-term funding stability requires strong relationships with various funders and other transportation stakeholders.
Pay And Benefits
Pay Rate: $64.96/hour
Work Profile: This position has been designated as Work Profile 4 - Fully Remote: Time spent working remotely is 100% with occasional but inconsistent presence in UMN locations. Collaborative or shared on campus work space to be provided while on campus.
