Organizational Overview
Jumpstart Kids is the leading early childhood literacy nonprofit. Since 1993, we have trained caring individuals to support the work of teachers and families, using a research-based, play-based approach that helps young children build literacy, language, and life skills. To date, our programming has reached hundreds of thousands of children in early learning settings nationwide.
Position Overview
The Communications and Content Coordinator supports Jumpstart Kids' marketing and communications work by building and executing the recurring production that keeps our social media, email, and website channels running on schedule. This role brings Jumpstart Kids’ established voice and visual identity to life across channels, working from existing templates, calendars, and direction set by the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Brand.
This is a production-focused role, designing and editing graphics and short-form video, posting content, building and sending emails, and publishing website updates with accuracy, consistency, and reliable turnaround. Success in this role looks like consistent, on-time execution, with content and emails going out accurately and on schedule, campaigns free of broken links or formatting errors, and quick turnaround on feedback and revisions.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Production (~8 hours/week)
- Create 1–2 social media posts per week (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook)
- Adapt organizational content, including but not limited to contributed stories, media placements, op-eds, partner posts, timely events, and speaking moments, into platform-appropriate social and email content
- Source or select photography, and/or create simple graphics and short form video existing templates
- Schedule posts across platforms and monitor basic engagement
- Route content for review and approval per established workflows
Email Communications (~8 hours/week)
- Draft and design email campaigns (approximately 1 per week)
- Build emails in Constant Contact; QA for links, formatting, and mobile rendering
- Segment audiences per direction and schedule email sends
- Maintain email templates and design consistency
Website & Digital Updates (~4 hours/week)
- Implement monthly content updates (copy and content adjustments, minor SEO fixes)
- Manage website change requests and content management system (CMS) publishing
- Support rebrand and design adjustments to collateral templates
- Pull performance metrics from Sprout, Constant Contact, GA4, and Shopify into a monthly snapshot
Qualifications
Required:
- 2+ years of experience in digital marketing, communications, content creation, design, or similar field
- Proficiency with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook)
- Experience with a social media scheduling/management platform (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar) to schedule and monitor content across multiple profiles
- Experience with email design tools (Constant Contact or similar)
- Comfortability with using Canva for basic graphic design
- Basic short form video creation and editing experience
- Basic copywriting ability; can adapt to a provided voice and messaging framework
- Ability to work from brand guidelines and templates and follow direction
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable and self-directed; able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
Preferred
- WordPress familiarity (jumpstartkids.org)
- Google Analytics 4 familiarity
- Understanding of nonprofit marketing or the education sector
Travel
Less than 5% travel.
Start Date
Target onboarding: as soon as possible following offer acceptance
Location
Remote, flexible within the U.S. Boston, Atlanta, NYC preferred.
Salary & Benefits
Hours: 20–25 hours/week
Duration: 8-10 month temporary position with potential to renew.
Compensation: $32/hour
Benefits: This temporary, part-time position is not eligible for the organization's standard employee benefits, including company-sponsored PTO, vacation, or holiday benefits, except to the extent required by applicable law.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, temporary
