Social Media & Communications Specialist
Location: Dearborn, MI — Onsite
Job Type: Contract
About the Role
We are looking for a Social Media & Communications Specialist to help build and grow The Shop, a B2B eCommerce platform for automotive dealers launched in January 2024.
The Shop is built around three core principles:
- Dealers First
- Excellence
- Transparency
Our goal is to make The Shop the first destination for dealers researching and purchasing solutions to support their dealerships.
This is a highly hands-on role for a marketing professional who can move seamlessly between strategy and execution. You’ll play a key role in increasing awareness and engagement with The Shop, strengthening the brand, and supporting dealer enrollment across multiple channels.
The initial focus will be heavily centered on social media strategy, content creation, community engagement, and communications/PR. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable being "hands on keyboard"—creating and publishing content, managing a content calendar, collaborating with internal teams and vendors, analyzing performance, and continuously identifying new opportunities to grow the brand.
What You’ll Do
- Own day-to-day execution of The Shop’s social media presence across platforms, including content creation, publishing, reposting, community engagement, and content calendar management.
- Help refine and execute The Shop’s social media strategy in alignment with the broader marketing plan.
- Develop and maintain consistent brand messaging, tone, and voice across social, communications, PR, and other channels.
- Create compelling copy and content for internal and external audiences.
- Develop, curate, and amplify content for The Shop’s Community pages, including webinars, white papers, one-pagers, newsletters, case studies, videos, educational content, and training materials.
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and other content sources to develop and manage new content.
- Identify opportunities to repurpose existing content and maximize its reach across The Shop’s website and social channels.
- Support communications, PR, marketing initiatives, dealer programs, offers, events, meetings, and tradeshows.
- Track and report social media performance, analyze data, and recommend actionable strategies to improve reach, engagement, and conversions.
- Maintain an authentic, trusted, and consistent voice for The Shop across all platforms.
- Support additional marketing and communications initiatives as business needs evolve.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of marketing experience, with a strong background in social media, communications, events, and/or PR.
- Experience building a new brand, launching a startup, or refreshing an established company, product, or service brand.
- Automotive marketing experience, particularly with dealer-focused products, solutions, or services, is highly desirable.
- Experience developing content and key messaging for multiple audiences and channels.
- Strong understanding of social media strategy, content development, publishing, engagement, and performance measurement.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong understanding of platforms such as LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, and other major social channels, including how platform algorithms impact content performance.
- Experience with social media management, scheduling, and analytics tools.
- Experience using graphic design and content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and social media content creation platforms.
- B2B and/or eCommerce marketing experience preferred.
- Experience with automotive dealer solutions and software services is a plus.
- Strong judgment, integrity, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a high-performing team.
- A positive, proactive "can-do" attitude and willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
- Excellent time management and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Public Relations, Strategy, or a related field preferred.
