Tawny Magazine is a startup women’s print and digital lifestyle brand preparing to grow our publication, and we’re looking for freelance writers who want to grow with us.
We’re still in the early stages, so we want to be transparent: our current rate is $0.10 per word. We know this is on the lower end of freelance rates, but we’re looking for writers interested in contributing on a smaller, flexible basis as we build the brand.
What we’re looking for:
- Freelance writers who can contribute approximately 1–3 pieces per month
- Writers who understand women’s lifestyle, culture, relationships, entertainment, personal essays, humor, and commentary
- Strong, conversational writers who aren't afraid to have a personality
- People who can reliably work within an established editorial voice
The biggest thing for us is voice.
Tawny Magazine has a very specific personality: conversational, witty, candid, slightly cheeky, and never overly polished or corporate. Before applying, please read through our website and familiarize yourself with our existing content and overall tone.
Only applicants who demonstrate that they can closely mimic and maintain Tawny’s established voice will be considered.
This is an assignment-based freelance position, not a full-time or salaried role. As Tawny expands, we hope to build ongoing relationships with writers who understand what we're creating and want to be part of the publication as it grows.
