About this role
The core of this role, most weeks, is being a deck wizard. The foundation of the work at Grand Crew is largely in decks: creative pitches, director treatments, capabilities and portfolios, case studies. Building them from our GC visual systems already in place, but also redesigning as needed, and reorganizing them as projects shift. It's an executional craft, it's constant, and it’s at the heart of nearly every project, no matter the end result.
If consistently working in the internal deck world isn’t of interest as a means to consistently be active in the continual creative process, this role isn’t for you. If you're the kind of designer who sees a beautiful, tightly built deck as a finished piece of design in its own right, and understands larger pieces of creative become possible by way of this work, your POV and experience will be very valued here.
You'll work directly with our co-founder and ECD, alongside consistently engaged fellow creatives: writing partners, additional designers, image pullers, directors and photographers. We’re also looking to engage a copywriter / filmmaker to work alongside you consistently as a partner. They own the words and the footage; you own the look and the build. Together you'll team up to concept on pitches, on social, and on projects across the company. The conceptual range is real, and it grows as the craft earns it.
Who is this for?
A designer or art director who wants to build their skill set into something bigger than the title. Design is a significant part of this job, and the craft bar is high. But really good design is the prerequisite here, not the end-all. You come in through decks, and the role branches out from there: concepting, art directing, being on set, straddling the line between designing the work and directing it. Your whole making toolkit is what we're hiring, and it's what we'll keep growing.
If you want to be a designer who works in design, full stop, that's a great career and there are great jobs for it. This isn't one of them. If design is your way into making everything, this is a great home for you.
What You'll Do
- Design and build decks across all our projects: treatments, pitch decks, capabilities decks, and case studies, with speed, taste, and typographic precision.
- Own and evolve our deck systems: templates, type systems, and layout libraries. Keeping our materials organized so nothing gets built from scratch twice.
- Art direct mood boards, look frames, visual research, references that sharpen an idea.
- Support social content with design: graphics, type treatments, thumbnails, simple motion.
- Concept with your creative partner and our ECD. Bring ideas, react to ideas, make ideas better.
What makes you right for this
- 2-5 years designing at an agency, studio, production company, or on your own.
- Portfolio with real craft: typography, layout, and visual storytelling that would hold up printed and pinned to a wall.
- Fluency in the tools: Canva, Figma, Google Slides, Keynote, InDesign, Illustrator. And the big one here…Claude.
- AI @ Grand Crew: We're AI-friendly here at Grand Crew, as a tool to help us move through processes in ways that allow the best parts of our creative and production minds to be successful, not to be creative for us. We use it to make the work more efficient, not to squeeze out the creative juices that make the work worth making. While not required for the role, we view using AI tools as a means of moving faster on the tedious parts without handing over your taste as a benefit to the job.
Grand Crew is currently building its systems using Claude integrated across many surfaces. We’d love someone with POV and understanding across their tools (Claude Code, CoWork, Connectors, and more). If not experience, having at least a curiosity, will be seen as a benefit.
- An organized brain: Grand Crew has a robust brand and design system already in place. You'd have full access to it, and the responsibility to maintain and expand it. Our ideal hire genuinely enjoys design systems.
- Nice to have: Fluency in After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop; general video and on-set experience.
