Streetsblog San Diego is seeking contributors to provide original reporting and analysis on transportation, housing, land use, public space, climate, and urban life across San Diego County.
Contributors will work with editors to identify story ideas, attend public meetings and community events, conduct interviews, review public documents, and produce articles that help readers better understand how local decisions shape everyday life. Contributors will have a unique opportunity to work with an established team to launch a website for “news and views” of transportation reform, urban planning, housing, open space and other issues.
Responsibilities- Attend public meetings, community events, or hearings as necessary
- Conduct interviews with community members, advocates, planners, and elected officials
- Review planning documents, budgets, studies, and policy proposals
- Collaborate with editors on story development and revisions
- Meet agreed-upon deadlines
Ideal Candidates- Strong writing and communication skills
- Interest in transportation, housing, urban planning, sustainability, local government, or civic affairs
- Ability to synthesize complex information into engaging, accessible stories
- Comfortable conducting interviews and independent research
- Familiarity with San Diego communities and local issues is a plus
CompensationContributors are paid per article. Typical compensation starts at $50 per article, with higher rates available for longer, more research-intensive, interview-driven, or investigative pieces.
