Job Title: Oncology Health Editor
Duration: 12-Month Contract

Pay Rate: $42/hour (W2)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Oncology Health Editor to assign, edit, and create high-quality oncology content for a knowledgeable audience of oncologists and related specialists. This role focuses heavily on news-driven oncology coverage, while also contributing to feature development, newsletters, and promotional content.
The editor will collaborate closely with the Executive Editor, marketing, and operations teams to ensure timely publication and engaging storytelling in a fast-paced, multimedia news environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and edit oncology-focused articles, primarily news, for a clinically sophisticated audience
- Pitch, write, and develop feature stories with fresh, creative angles in collaboration with the Executive Editor
- Assign clearly defined story ideas to freelancers and manage editorial workflows
- Edit content for accuracy, balance, timeliness, and relevance
- Write and edit in-depth or investigative oncology stories as needed
- Partner with marketing teams to develop newsletters and promotional content
- Coordinate with operations teams to ensure content is published on schedule
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Biology, Journalism, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in health or medical content editing and writing
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of the oncology field
- Proven experience assigning and managing freelance contributors
- Ability to translate medical and academic language into clear, accessible content
- Highly reliable, deadline-driven, and able to take direction while working independently
- Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and editorial judgment
- Flexible, creative, and adaptable in a competitive, fast-growing media environment
