Job Title: Health Editor (Oncology)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Oncology Editor to assign, edit, and produce high-quality medical news content for a physician audience. This role combines news editing with in-depth reporting and feature writing focused on oncology. The editor will collaborate closely with the oncology team and report directly to the Executive Editor.
The ideal candidate brings deep oncology knowledge, strong editorial judgment, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative, virtual environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and edit oncology-focused medical news content for an audience of oncologists and related specialists
- Ensure content accuracy, clarity, balance, timeliness, and relevance
- Pitch, research, and write deep-dive and investigative feature stories with fresh and creative angles
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Editor on editorial planning and execution
- Work with marketing teams to develop newsletters and promotional editorial content
- Partner with operations teams to ensure timely and efficient publication of content
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Biology, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in health or medical content editing and writing
- Extensive knowledge of oncology and related medical specialties
- Proven experience assigning well-defined story ideas to freelance writers
- Strong editing skills with a focus on accuracy, balance, and audience relevance
- Demonstrated ability to write in-depth, investigative, or long-form medical stories
- Highly reliable, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven
- Strong proofreading and editorial judgment
- Ability to translate complex medical and academic content into clear, engaging language for a broader audience
- Flexible and creative mindset to support a growing, multimedia news team
