About This Position

We are seeking an experienced Azure cloud engineer to join our company. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Azure cloud services, cloud-native applications, distributed computing, Infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD implementation, and observability tools and practices.

This position involves building, deploying, managing, and maintaining cloud services, as well as assessing existing IT infrastructure to help plan and deploy cloud migrations. It also involves maintaining and monitoring new systems, as well as configuring hybrid connectivity between on-site systems and the cloud environment, overseeing the migration process and design, and building automation scripts and frameworks to improve operational processes and procedures.

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical skills and leadership ability, with the communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with other members of the team.

Candidates should be adaptable and eager to research and learn new technologies and skills. They should be open to feedback, willing to update their knowledge, and stay up to date with the latest industry trends.

This is a consultant/freelance position (independent contractor).

Responsibilities

Manage and administer the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, policy governance and security.
Design, plan, and integrate cloud computing and virtualization systems.
Assist in identifying, evaluating, and implementing tools and services for the most efficient solution to enhance capabilities of cloud-based and virtualized services.
Meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements.
Migrate existing infrastructure services to cloud-based solutions.
Manage security and access controls of cloud-based solutions.
Develop and conduct testing of cloud and virtualization systems.
Develop and implement policy-driven data protection best practices to ensure cloud solutions are protected from data loss.
Maintain technical expertise in relevant industry standards and cloud-computing and virtualization technologies, such as cloud service provider architecture, design, and configuration; cloud deployment models; cloud service delivery models, including infrastructure and platform-as-a-service; automation; self-provisioning; and scaling.
Work in a virtualized Azure cloud environment via both graphical (Azure Portal) and command-line interfaces.
Work with automated configuration management tools, including software such as PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, and others
Troubleshoot infrastructure problems, and work with a team to resolve large-scale production issues.
Serve as an integral resource (or leader) in projects, adhering to committed deliverables and regular communication of progress to management.
Provide mentorship to less experienced cloud engineers to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.
Respond to customer incident tickets promptly, and maintain regular contact with customers for the duration of the incident.
Work outside of standard business hours, as needed (e.g., updates, upgrades, cutovers, etc.).

Required Qualifications

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in an IT-related major, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of Azure services, including Azure Active Directory, Azure Storage, Azure Networking, Azure Managed Service Identity, Azure Automation, Azure Functions, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Azure Policy, and Azure App Service.
In-depth understanding of, and experience with, deployments of various systems to Azure cloud environments.
Experience scripting with Python and PowerShell or other scripting language.
Experience in IaC development with Terraform, Azure CLI or Puppet or Ansible.
Experience with Terraform Cloud and Azure DevOps.
Competence in a wide range of IT skills, including networking, systems administration, data protection, information security and CI/CD tooling.
Experience with internal and client-facing technical work and consulting services.
Ability to think critically. Excellent reasoning and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously, prioritizing various and changing objectives and initiatives.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen attention to detail. Proper phone etiquette is a must!
Willingness to dedicate personal time to the pursuit of knowledge and furtherance of career.
Enthusiastic learner with the ability to teach and mentor teammates and cross-functional partners.

Helpful Qualifications

Industry certifications (specifically Microsoft, AWS, Azure, GCP).
2+ years of Microsoft Azure experience involving design, deployment, configuration, migration, and optimization.
2+ years of experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions.
Experience in the design and operation of small to large-scale enterprise infrastructure, databases, and application systems.
Experience with GIT to perform source code management.
Experience with Jira and ServiceNow.
