Freelance Sweater Designer
We are looking for a freelance Sweater Designer with a strong creative point of view and a background in contemporary fashion. The ideal candidate is passionate about fully fashioned sweaters and brings fresh ideas along with a deep understanding of knitwear construction.
This is a project-based role that is primarily remote. Occasional in-person meetings may be needed to present ideas or review direction.
Responsibilities
- Develop original sweater concepts that align with seasonal direction and the target customer.
- Bring new ideas to the category, from initial inspiration through design development.
- Create sketches, color palettes, and clear design specifications.
- Select yarns, stitches, and construction techniques to achieve the desired look and feel.
- Research trends, materials, and market developments relevant to contemporary knitwear.
- Partner with cross-functional teams on samples, fittings, and design refinements.
- Present concepts and provide clear feedback throughout the development process.
- Maintain organized design materials and specifications.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of knitwear or sweater design experience, with a contemporary fashion background.
- Strong knowledge of fully fashioned sweater construction, yarns, stitches, and techniques.
- Experience developing knitwear from concept through production.
- Strong sketching and technical design skills, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Understanding of garment fit, pattern making, and design specifications.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A degree in fashion design, textile design, or a related field.
