Mogul · Hybrid-Remote · Full time, or Contract to Full time opportunity
Role Overview
The goal is to help transition Mogul from a web-based royalty and rights management tool into a mobile first consumer fintech product. The place artists and rightsholders see their money, understand where it comes from, and claim missing money, from their phone. Today the product is dense and capable and shaped like a desktop too. Already more than 50% of our usage is on mobile. What we want to do is meet artists where they are.
We're hiring one designer to own product design at Mogul and lead that transition.
Why This Role Matters
A consumer fintech product is made or broken by design. The hard part isn't producing screens; it's the judgment to take an inherently complicated domain such as splits, statements, payouts, rights, etc. and decide what a person actually needs to see, then carry it through to something shipped and polished. This is the first design hire that owns the surface end to end. What you decide in the first six months is what the product becomes.
What You'll Do
- Own Mogul's product design end to end: The web app today, the mobile app next, and the system that holds both together.
- Lead the transition from tool to product: re-conceiving a desktop, power-user experience as a mobile-first consumer one. This is the core of the job, not a re-skin.
- Own the onboarding funnel alongside our head of growth: first run, identity and account connection, activation. Fintech onboarding problems, where a lot of unavoidable complexity has to feel like nothing.
- Own the core experience: royalty statements, catalog, splits, payouts, distribution. Making financial data legible to people who are not accountants.
- Run customer interviews yourself, regularly. You go get the research; what you learn shows up in what ships.
- Work the full range of the craft: product thinking, interaction and visual design, prototyping to production fidelity.
- Partner directly with founders and engineering. Few layers, fast loop.
What We're Looking For
- Serious UI/UX craft. Your work should hold up next to the best consumer apps on someone's phone, not next to the best B2B dashboards.
- Experience making the jump from web to mobile, or from tool to product. 0→1 on a mobile app is a strong signal.
- Fintech experience over music experience. We have the music domain covered. What's rare is a designer who has made money, accounts, and financial data feel simple and trustworthy.
- Systems thinking: patterns that scale across web and mobile rather than one-off screens.
- Comfortable being the only designer. Early-stage pace, high autonomy, high ownership.
On AI
Use it. We do, constantly, and it would be strange if you didn't. What we're screening against is dependence. If the prompt-to-UI tools went away tomorrow, your work should still be really good. The taste, the judgment about hierarchy and flow, the ability to sit with a hard problem and design your way out of it. AI should make you faster at work you could already do, not do the work for you.
Why Join Mogul
- Own the design of an entire product, not a slice of someone else's roadmap.
- Music money is genuinely broken. Opaque statements, missing royalties, payments that take years. The work has a real effect on whether artists get paid.
- Backed by Yamaha, Amplify, and Wonder, with real customers and real revenue already running through the platform.
- Direct access to the founders. Decisions in days, not quarters.
How to Apply
Respond with:
- Your portfolio: ideally one project end to end: the problem, what you learned from users, what you tried, what shipped, and what it did.
- A few sentences on the hardest complexity-to-simplicity problem you've solved.
- Your contract rate and availability.
Short and specific beats long and polished.
