We are looking for a Business Process Documentation Consultant to lead a documentation-focused engagement supporting Finance and Accounting teams in Menlo Park, California. This role will concentrate on organizing, updating, and building clear procedural materials that reflect how work is currently carried out across the department. The ideal candidate brings strong project coordination, process documentation, and stakeholder interview skills, along with the ability to turn complex workflows into an accessible operating manual.
Responsibilities:
• Examine current Finance and Accounting documentation to determine what should be revised, clarified, or newly created.
• Meet with and observe team members across accounting and financial planning functions to capture day-to-day operating practices.
• Produce detailed standard operating procedures and workflow guides that explain tasks in a clear, sequential format.
• Revise materials so they accurately reflect present-day tools, reporting structures, and working methods.
• Create new documentation for areas where formal procedures do not yet exist, including portions of the FP& A function.
• Flag inconsistencies, missing information, and documentation gaps while preserving existing processes rather than redesigning them.
• Coordinate milestones, feedback cycles, and approvals to keep the project on schedule and ensure timely delivery of final materials.
• Incorporate information related to systems such as Sage Intacct, Concur, and Stampli into process documentation where applicable.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, business analysis, technical writing, or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to develop SOPs, process guides, user manuals, or departmental documentation for business operations.
• Strong interviewing and facilitation skills with the ability to gather information from stakeholders and convert it into practical written instructions.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines independently in a structured project environment.
• Comfort working with Finance or Accounting teams; direct exposure to those functions is preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a thoughtful, patient approach in an environment that values careful execution.
• Familiarity with systems such as Sage Intacct, Concur, or Stampli is helpful, though not required.
