Part-Time Social Media Coordinator (Marine Science & Video)About UsThe Harbors Video Project (THVP) opens a window on the underwater world through exploration, research, and education. With over 3,500 hours of recorded video and 5,000+ species observations mapped across our local waters, we are building an interactive "Explore" platform. Our goal is to make the life beneath our coastal waters visible and understandable to the people who live, play, and work near them.
The RoleWe are looking for a creative, science-minded Social Media Coordinator to help us drive traffic to our interactive website and engage a growing community of ocean lovers, divers, and educators. In this phase, you will not just be posting pictures; you will be turning our massive library of raw underwater footage and associated observation data into social media content that encourages people to visit, explore, and provide feedback on our digital platform as well as partner with us for educational, scientific or conservation purposes. We are looking for someone who will bring ideas, test them, and learn from what works.
We are looking for someone part-time who can spend around 10 hours/week to get us started. Down the line, this could grow into more. Early success will be measured primarily by whether the content gets people exploring the site, interacting with THVP, providing useful feedback, and returning - not simply by follower counts.
Key Responsibilities● Short-Form Video Optimization: Edit and optimize raw underwater clips into compelling social media videos.
● Interactive Content Creation: Craft engaging captions and interactive stories that encourage users to visit our Explore site to research the local waters or learn more, or to partner with us.
● Audience Engagement & Feedback: Manage our social feeds, respond to comments, spark conversations about marine biology and exploration, and actively prompt followers for feedback on our website's user experience.
● Testing & Learning: Track which content and calls to action actually drive visits to Explore, interaction, feedback, and return engagement, and use those results to refine the content mix.
● Channel Management: Schedule and publish content 2–3 times per week across our priority social media channels, using a focused initial mix that fits the available 10 hours/week.
Qualifications & Experience● Background in Marine Science: A degree, relevant coursework, professional experience, or demonstrated strong foundational knowledge in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Oceanography, or a closely related field. You must be able to write scientifically accurate, educational captions.
● Video Editing Workflow: Experience editing engaging, fast-paced social media video.
● Time Management: Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively within an initial 10-hour weekly budget, and use efficient workflows and templates.
● Software Experience Bonus: Experience with DaVinci Resolve is beneficial, as we are planning on standardizing on this for remote video production. An understanding of basic color correction for underwater footage is a major plus.
How to Apply- In your message, please look at our interactive website (https://explore.theharborsvideoproject.org) and pitch us one or two creative ideas on how you would use our existing video library and data to actively engage people and get them exploring the platform. Briefly explain why you think the ideas would work and what you would look at to judge whether they are driving meaningful engagement. Also tell us which platforms you would prioritize first and why.
