Role Description This is a hybrid Freelance Interior Designer role based in Chicago, IL, with some work-from-home flexibility. The Freelance Interior Designer will develop design concepts, prepare mood boards, and create detailed presentations for residential and commercial projects. Daily responsibilities include space planning, coordinating FF&E selections, collaborating with architects and contractors, and preparing construction drawings and documentation. The role involves meeting with clients, conducting site visits, managing project timelines, and ensuring designs align with client needs, budgets, and brand standards. The designer will work closely with the studio team, using digital tools to communicate progress and maintain consistent quality across all deliverables.
Qualifications
- Strong Interior Design and FF&E skills, including concept development, material selection, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment specifications.
- Proficiency in Space Planning and Architecture-related coordination to create functional, aesthetically cohesive layouts.
- Ability to produce accurate Construction Drawings and documentation for implementation and contractor communication.
- Professional experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) and standard office tools.
- Excellent visual communication, presentation, and client-facing skills, with the ability to interpret and translate client needs into design solutions.
- Strong project management abilities, including attention to detail, time management, and coordination with vendors and contractors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Portfolio demonstrating high-quality residential and/or commercial interior design projects.
