OVERVIEW
We are hiring a Social Media Manager to help build and run our presence across every major social media platform. This is a 1099 freelance engagement structured as a 6-month contract, with the possibility to extend or convert to full time.
We are hiring for a media project: fast-moving, creative, and made to entertain. We're looking for someone who knows what works on social, from turning existing content into platform-native posts and formats to developing original social-first ideas, whether that’s a carousel or a meme.
The ideal candidate is a hybrid of strategist, writer, and community builder someone who understands platform-native storytelling, knows how to move at the speed of the internet, and is genuinely online enough to spot a trend before it peaks. This isn’t a job where you’ll be going it alone, you’ll be working with our social team. But we’re looking for:

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own and manage day-to-day presence across Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube – working with the head of content, a writer who focuses exclusively on Twitter, and a social first video producer
- Develop and maintain a content calendar aligned with editorial priorities and platform trends
- Write, package, and schedule posts, captions, and short-form video concepts
- Repurpose long-form content (articles, video, interviews) into platform-native social content
- Monitor trends, formats, and conversations to identify timely content opportunities
- Track performance analytics across platforms and translate data into actionable recommendations
- Collaborate with the editorial and creative team to align social strategy with broader content goals
- Flag emerging platform features or best practices that could benefit 51st Media's growth
This is not an entry-level role. We're looking for someone who can operate independently as a contractor, move quickly, and consistently produce high-quality content that grows our audience and strengthens the brand.
WHO YOU ARE
- 2-4+ years of professional social media management experience, ideally for a media brand, publisher, creator, or content-driven organization
- A strong portfolio or examples of social content you've created or managed, with results to back it up
- Deep fluency in Instagram, TikTok, X, and short-form video formats
- Comfortable with basic content creation and editing tools (e.g., CapCut, Canva, or others) for quick-turn assets
- Strong understanding of platform analytics and how to use them to inform strategy
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and voice across formats
- Ability to manage your own schedule, deadlines, and deliverables as an independent contractor
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving media environment and adjusting to shifting priorities
