Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc.™ (JIFI-NYC) is a New York City–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women and families in crisis, underserved communities, and Jamaican youth athletes pursuing opportunities in the United States.
Through fundraising, community outreach, cultural programs, charitable initiatives, and partnerships, JIFI-NYC works to strengthen communities and create meaningful opportunities throughout New York City, Jamaica, and the Jamaican diaspora.
POSITION OVERVIEW
JIFI-NYC is seeking a creative, highly motivated, and social-media-savvy Digital Media, Content Creator & Graphic Designer to help strengthen our organization's online presence and visual communications.
This is a hands-on creative position — not simply a social media posting role. The successful candidate must be a strong content creator and graphic designer who can develop professional digital and print materials from concept through completion.
The ideal candidate understands how to create content specifically for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms, and knows how to adapt content to each audience.
The candidate must be able to follow instructions, meet deadlines, accept feedback, make revisions, and independently complete assignments. Applicants must also be prepared to demonstrate their creative and technical skill set through a portfolio, work samples, social media accounts, and/or a practical skills demonstration.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media & Content Creation
- Manage and contribute to JIFI-NYC's presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other approved platforms.
- Create, schedule, and publish posts, Reels, Stories, TikToks, short-form videos, graphics, and other platform-specific content.
- Create original photographs, videos, interviews, event coverage, and behind-the-scenes content.
- Write engaging captions, promotional copy, headlines, and calls-to-action.
- Stay current with social media trends, platform features, and effective content formats.
- Develop creative campaigns that promote JIFI-NYC's mission, programs, events, fundraising activities, and community impact.
- Monitor comments, messages, mentions, and audience engagement.
Graphic Design & Advertising
Graphic design is a core responsibility of this position.
The candidate will create professional materials including:
- Event flyers and promotional graphics.
- Social media graphics and advertisements.
- Fundraising and community campaign materials.
- Digital and print advertisements.
- Journal, magazine, newspaper, and publication advertisements.
- Event invitations, posters, banners, and promotional materials.
- Email and newsletter graphics.
- Branded templates and other marketing materials.
Experience with Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, CapCut, or similar creative software is highly desirable.
Nonprofit Storytelling & Marketing
Create content that tells the story of JIFI-NYC and highlights our:
- Community programs and initiatives.
- Volunteers and supporters.
- Women, families, youth, and athletes.
- Cultural activities and events.
- Fundraising efforts.
- Partnerships and community relationships.
- Organizational accomplishments and impact.
The candidate should be able to turn an event, announcement, photograph, or idea into engaging content that communicates who we are, what we do, and why our work matters.
FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS & CREATIVE DIRECTION
The successful candidate must be creative and coachable.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum High School Diploma and 2+ years of experience in social media, content creation, graphic design, digital marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of major social media platforms.
- Demonstrated experience creating social media content.
- Strong graphic design skills.
- Ability to create professional flyers and advertisements.
- Experience with short-form video, photography, and basic video editing.
- Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
- Ability to create materials for both digital and print use.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Ability to take directions, accept feedback, and make revisions.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
PORTFOLIO / SKILLS DEMONSTRATION
A portfolio or work samples are required.
Applicants should provide examples of previous work, such as social media posts, Reels, TikToks, videos, photography, flyers, advertisements, journal/publication designs, branding, or marketing campaigns.
JIFI-NYC may request a brief practical skills demonstration during the interview process to assess the candidate's ability to follow instructions, demonstrate technical skills, and produce a finished creative product.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience with nonprofit, community, cultural, fundraising, event, sports, or Jamaican/Caribbean organizations is a plus.
Familiarity with the Jamaican diaspora and New York City communities is highly valued. Spanish or other languages commonly spoken in NYC communities are also a plus.
POSITION DETAILS
Employment Type: Temporary, Part-Time
Initial Term: Three months, with potential extension
Hours: Approximately 15–25 hours per week
Pay: $17.00–$19.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Work Location: Hybrid — Midtown Manhattan, New York, NY 10036
Travel: Occasional travel throughout Manhattan, Queens, and surrounding communities may be required.
The position reports to the Marketing Team and works closely with the JIFI-NYC Chairperson, staff, volunteers, and community partners. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events.
