We are seeking a talented Freelance Writer to join our contributor network and produce high-quality, search-driven content focused on VA loans, homeownership, health insurance, and benefits for our military and veteran audience.
About the Role
As a Freelance Writer, you will create informative, SEO-driven content focused on VA loans, mortgages, homeownership, health insurance, and related topics for Military.com’s audience.
You will translate complex topics into clear, engaging content that builds trust, drives organic traffic, and generates qualified leads for our mortgage and lead-generation funnels.
The ideal candidate understands search intent, writes for both readers and search engines, and can balance editorial quality with performance and business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Research, pitch, and write articles covering VA loans, mortgages, homeownership, health insurance, and related topics.
- Produce a consistent volume of high-quality content on deadline.
- Identify relevant topics and search opportunities based on audience needs and search intent.
- Write clear, engaging, and accessible content that simplifies complex financial, insurance, and benefits-related topics.
- Apply SEO best practices, including keyword targeting, search intent, internal linking, headings, and content structure.
- Write compelling headlines, introductions, and calls-to-action that encourage reader engagement.
- Create content designed to generate qualified organic traffic and leads while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Research current programs, regulations, benefits, lenders, insurers, and industry developments using credible sources.
- Fact-check information carefully, particularly when covering financial, insurance, or government-related topics.
- Collaborate with editors and growth teams to refine content and improve performance.
- Update and optimize existing articles based on search performance, changes in regulations, and evolving audience needs.
- Monitor search trends and audience behavior to identify new content opportunities.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a professional writer, journalist, or content creator.
- Strong portfolio of published content, preferably in finance, mortgages, insurance, personal finance, real estate, or related topics.
- Strong understanding of SEO and search-driven content creation.
- Ability to research complex subjects and explain them clearly to a general audience.
- Excellent writing, editing, research, and fact-checking skills.
- Ability to write for both readers and search engines without sacrificing content quality.
- Understanding of how content can support audience growth and lead-generation objectives.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines in a remote freelance environment.

Preferred Qualifications
