GENERAL DUTIES
- Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.
- There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as
needed.
- Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.
- Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,
operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,
act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.
- Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
- Acts as cashier.
- Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.
- Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.
- Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.
- Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.
- May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

The Office of Public Programs offers world class hybrid events to share the ideas and research of CUNY faculty, students, and outside guests on a wide range of timely topics. Audiences attend the events in person at our NYC campus and stream in from around the world. Recent topics have included the future of democracy, climate change, police reform and the rise of the labor movement. Recent speakers have included Angela Davis, Christopher Nolan, Jamelle Bouie, Paul Krugman, Noble Prize-winning scientists and other leaders in their fields.
The College Assistant will create compelling social and multimedia content before and after each event that will aid in expanding the audience for the Graduate Center’s public events. The Office of Public Programs aims to expand the Graduate Center’s social media presence by creating short social media videos featuring content from the events. A successful candidate will have experience in social media marketing and the ability to translate intellectual and topical discussions to a social audience. This position will work closely with the Social Media Coordinator to create videos and other content to promote events.
This position is for 20 hours per week and requires the incumbent to work in-person.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Assists with devising and executing strategies to promote and expand audience for public events on social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram and YouTube shorts using video and photographic content.
- Creates short social videos for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube shorts.
- Attends events, which take place on weekday evenings.
- Creates pre-event content-driven social media posts.
- Creates approximately 2-4 posts per event per platform.

- Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with creating social media for an organization, educational institution, or business.
- Experience using editing and post creation tools within social platforms.
- Ability to write thoughtfully and creatively about intellectual content.
- Ability to write clean copy.
- Demonstrated experience in video editing and creating social graphics.
- Proven skills in making social content that gets seen by a wider audience.
- Ability to meet ongoing deadlines and stay on top of posting schedule.
- Ability to communicate about challenges with projects.
Compensation
$24 per hour
