About Avannis
Avannis helps banks and credit unions understand and improve the experience they deliver to their customers and members. We run customer and member experience research programs and deliver the results in clear, client-ready presentation decks.
About the role
Every research deck we deliver includes short written observations beneath the charts and an executive summary at the front. These are plain-language narratives: they describe what the data shows, clearly and accurately, so a busy reader understands the results without studying every chart. We are hiring a part-time Research Report Writer to produce these observations and the executive summary.
This is a writing role, not an analyst role. Our research team handles analysis and recommendations. Your job is to read charted survey results, describe what they show in a consistent, professional voice, follow our templates and style guide closely, and get every number right. We will train you on our format and review your first several decks closely. You will use AI writing tools to speed up first drafts; the value you add is context, quality, accuracy, consistency, and human prose.
This is a steady part-time role with a predictable rhythm. Our deck schedule is set months in advance: about seven months a year run at 8 to 10 decks per month (roughly 30 to 35 hours of work), and the remaining months are lighter at 3 to 7 decks. That averages about 25 hours a month, or 300 hours a year. We guarantee a minimum of 15 paid hours every month, share the full deck calendar with you up front, and the work itself can be scheduled flexibly around each deck's deadline.
What you will do
• Review the charts, tables, and open-ended comments in each client deck and write a short, factual observation for each slide that needs one, following our templates and style guide.
• Write the executive summary for each deck: a concise narrative of the main results, notable changes from the prior period, and areas of relative strength and weakness, as shown in the data.
• Use AI writing assistants to draft quickly, then edit for accuracy, clarity, and consistency with our house style.
• Check every number, percentage, and comparison in your text against the underlying charts before handoff.
• Flag anything that looks off in the data or that you are unsure how to describe, rather than guessing.
• Incorporate reviewer feedback and apply it forward so later decks need fewer edits.
• Help keep our style guide, example library, and AI prompts current.
• Track time accurately and meet agreed deck turnaround times (typically 1-2 business days from receiving charted data).
What we are looking for
• Excellent written English: clear, concise, concrete, and free of filler. You will be asked for a writing sample and to complete a short paid writing exercise.
• Comfortable reading charts and simple tables and describing them accurately (for example, "Satisfaction with branch staff rose 4 points to 87%, the highest of the six service areas measured").
• Meticulous attention to detail; you notice when a number in the text does not match the chart.
• Able to follow templates and a style guide closely and produce consistent output deck after deck.
• Experience using AI writing tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar) and editing their output critically.
• Reliable and self-directed in a low-touch, deadline-driven environment with fluctuating volume.
• Working knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel or Google Sheets.
Helpful but not required: 1 to 4 years in research, reporting, journalism, technical or business writing, or a similar role; familiarity with surveys, satisfaction or NPS measurement, or banking and credit unions.
Compensation and benefits
• Pay: $20 to $24 per hour, depending on experience.
• Guaranteed minimum: 15 paid hours per month, regardless of deck volume. Most months run 20 to 35 hours on a schedule shared well in advance; hours above 40 in a month require prior approval.
• Classification: Part-time, non-exempt W-2 employee. Not eligible for health insurance (under 30 hours per week).
• Benefits: Paid sick leave in accordance with applicable state law; Retirement matching eligibility after first year.
• Location and schedule: Fully remote. Must be authorized to work in the United States and reside in Arizona, Idaho, Utah, or Texas. Core availability for occasional 30-minute check-ins during Mountain Time business hours.
How to apply
Send a resume to jobs@avannis.com with "Report Writer, Customer Experience (Part-Time, Remote)" in the subject line. Include a writing sample (preferable one where you describe data, results, or findings for a general audience). Please also include two or three sentences on how you currently use AI tools in your writing. Semi-finalists will be asked to complete a values survey. Finalists will be invited to complete a short unpaid writing exercise (about 30-40 minutes) using a sample set of slides.
