Brand & Marketing Strategist
DO WHAT I WANT (DWIW)
Hybrid / Remote-First | Southern California
Part-Time Contract | 30-Day Paid Trial
ABOUT DWIW
DO WHAT I WANT (DWIW) is an independent multimedia music and creative company built around music, visual storytelling, live experiences, culture, and collaboration.
Since launching in August 2024, DWIW has generated 1.8M+ streams across 13 releases, collaborated with artists and creatives across the U.S., produced live experiences, and worked with brand partners.
We've proven we can create. Now we're looking for a Brand & Marketing Strategist who can help turn that momentum into a recognizable brand, culture, and community.
THE ROLE
We're looking for someone who understands how to make people care.
You should understand hooks, algorithms, social media, content strategy, and how to capture attention. But we're not interested in building a brand around trends or short attention spans alone.
We want someone who understands what happens after the hook.
How do we turn someone discovering one DWIW video into someone who wants to see another?
How do we turn someone who likes one song into someone who understands the larger world we're building?
How do we make a project feel like something people don't just want to watch, but want to be part of?
Our goal is:
Attention → Curiosity → Connection → Community
You'll work directly with DWIW leadership to develop strategy around our brand, audience, campaigns, releases, and creative projects.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
• Brand Strategy: Strengthen DWIW's positioning, identity, and cultural relevance.
• Marketing Strategy: Develop strategies around music releases, artists, live experiences, collaborations, and projects.
• Audience Growth: Develop ways to acquire new audiences and convert casual viewers/listeners into returning fans.
• Campaign Development: Build rollouts that feel like moments rather than disconnected posts.
• Hooks & Storytelling: Develop strong entry points that capture attention without sacrificing the identity of the brand.
• Content Strategy: Develop content pillars, recurring concepts, and platform-specific strategies across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other relevant platforms.
• Community Building: Help strengthen the relationship between DWIW and its audience.
• Research & Analytics: Analyze performance, competitors, cultural trends, audience behavior, PR opportunities, and partnerships to identify what we should do next.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for an early-career to mid-level strategist, ideally with 1–3 years of relevant experience.
You should:
• Understand branding, marketing, culture, and internet behavior
• Know the difference between getting attention and building a brand
• Understand audience psychology and why people become invested in brands and communities
• Think creatively AND strategically
• Have strong instincts for storytelling, positioning, and hooks
• Understand TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging digital culture
• Be comfortable analyzing performance and adapting strategy
• Bring ideas to the table rather than waiting for instructions
• Be willing to challenge an idea when you see a stronger direction
• Be genuinely interested in music, entertainment, fashion, media, and culture
Experience in music, entertainment, fashion, media, creative agencies, creator-led companies, or culture-driven brands is preferred.
THIS IS NOT A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER ROLE
We're not looking for someone to simply schedule posts or tell us to "post consistently."
We need someone who can look at DWIW as a whole and ask:
Why should someone care? What makes this different? What's missing? How do we turn attention into genuine investment in the brand?
At DWIW, DWIW itself is the central brand.
The songs, artists, visuals, performances, collaborations, events, and content all contribute to a larger creative world.
We want someone to discover DWIW and think:
"Wait... what is this?" → "I need to see more." → "I want to be part of this."
WORK STRUCTURE
Hybrid / Remote-First — Southern California
The majority of work will be completed remotely.
DWIW typically has 2–3 in-person projects, productions, events, or activations per month across Southern California. The strategist may attend select projects when relevant to the campaign or brand strategy.
Some projects take place on weekends, so occasional weekend availability is expected, but this does not mean working every weekend. Dates will be communicated in advance.
COMPENSATION
$750 flat fee for an initial 30-day paid trial engagement.
Expected commitment: approximately 25–30 total hours during the 30-day period, including remote strategy work, meetings, research, and applicable in-person projects.
Responsibilities and deliverables will be established at the beginning of the engagement.
Strong performance may lead to an ongoing paid contract and expanded role with DWIW, with compensation and scope reevaluated accordingly.

WHAT TO SUBMIT
Please submit your resume along with examples that show us how you think.
This may include a portfolio, strategy deck, case study, campaign, audience-growth project, brand work, or personal project.
We're less interested in whether you've worked with the biggest company in the room and more interested in whether you can look at something with potential and understand how to make people care about it.
