Role Description The Music Journalist will research and write engaging stories, reviews, interviews, and features that highlight emerging and underrepresented music artists and related creative professionals. Day-to-day responsibilities include pitching article ideas, conducting interviews (remote or virtual), reviewing new releases and performances, and collaborating with editors to refine content for publication. The role involves tailoring pieces for digital platforms and magazines, meeting deadlines, and adhering to editorial guidelines and brand voice. This is a contract role with flexible scheduling, and all work is performed remotely.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in Music Journalism, with the ability to analyze music trends and articulate informed perspectives.
- Knowledge and passion for Music across genres, particularly emerging and underrepresented artists.
- Journalism and Writing skills, including research, interviewing, and fact-checking for accurate and compelling stories.
- Experience writing for Magazines or digital publications, with familiarity in adapting tone and style for different audiences.
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail in grammar, structure, and storytelling.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Comfort conducting interviews via phone, video, or email, and building professional relationships with artists and industry contacts.
- Previous experience in entertainment, music media, or cultural reporting is beneficial; relevant portfolio or writing samples required.
