HXM Studios is looking for a freelance or part-time scriptwriter who knows how to create high-performing short-form videos on Instagram, not content that simply checks a box.
Our content is focused on filmmaking, and our audience consists primarily of aspiring filmmakers on Instagram. A strong understanding of this audience, what they care about, struggle with, and want to learn, is essential. You must know how to turn filmmaking knowledge into educational Instagram content that provides real value while earning attention and retaining viewers.
A major plus is the ability to help develop strong video concepts, not just turn existing ideas into scripts. We want someone who can collaborate with our team, identify the strongest angles within our knowledge and experience, and develop those ideas into compelling talking-head scripts.
You must understand:
- How the Instagram algorithm works
- What makes short-form videos perform
- Strong hooks and hook stacking
- Curiosity loops and maintaining viewer interest
- Retention metrics and pacing
- Audience psychology
- How to provide real value through educational content
- How to structure talking-head videos for Instagram
- How to speak directly to aspiring filmmakers
Proven performance is required. Applicants must provide examples of videos they wrote or helped develop that performed well, along with the results and a clear explanation of their contribution. Strong writing alone is not enough, we need someone who understands how to turn valuable ideas into videos people actually watch.
This position will begin immediately on a freelance or part-time basis, with the potential to grow into a larger or full-time role. Austin-based is a strong plus, but not required.
