Position Overview
We're looking for passionate, thoughtful writers to join our team as Freelance Staff Writers. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging journalists, theatre enthusiasts, critics, graduate students, and arts professionals looking to build their portfolios while gaining hands-on experience in arts journalism.
As a Staff Writer, you'll attend solo performances throughout New York City, write engaging reviews and feature articles, and help introduce audiences to exciting new artists and productions.
Responsibilities
- Attend assigned solo theatre performances throughout the New York City area.
- Write thoughtful, engaging, and well-edited reviews within three days of attending each performance.
- Write preview articles for upcoming productions and events.
- Contribute occasional feature articles or opinion pieces on theatre and solo performance.
- Work closely with our editorial team to revise articles when needed prior to publication.
- Help promote and celebrate artists working within the solo performance community.

Qualifications
- Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills
- Excellent storytelling ability and attention to detail
- Passion for theatre, live performance, or the performing arts
- Ability to attend performances in New York City
- Reliable and able to meet editorial deadlines
- Professional or academic experience in theatre, journalism, communications, marketing, English, or a related field is preferred
- Bachelor's degree or current undergraduate/graduate student preferred
Additional Information
Staff Writers receive complimentary press admission to performances and are expected to attend the productions they accept. Reviews should be original, unpublished work written exclusively for All About Solo. Articles are edited prior to publication to maintain editorial standards and consistency.
