About DCFYI
Family & Youth Initiative (DCFYI) is a small non-profit organization that creates a supportive community for teens and young adults who are in or have aged out of foster care. We recruit volunteers (mentors, Open Table participants, host families, and adoptive families) and host events to help teens at risk of aging out of foster care develop lasting relationships with caring adults who will support them as they transition into adulthood.
Opportunity Overview
DCFYI seeks a Social Media Manager to manage and grow our presence on DCFYI’s social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and occasionally X (Twitter) and YouTube). This is a paid contract/freelance role, up to 10 hours/week. Key communication goals include recruiting volunteers and donors, building support for annual giving, themed campaigns, and the annual Establishing Roots fundraiser (October), and other giving efforts, and growing the DCFYI email list.
Responsibilities
In coordination with the Executive Director and Communications Committee Chair, the Manager will draft, design, and publish 3–5 posts per week on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, with occasional posts on X and YouTube, adapting content across channels while maintaining a consistent voice and following DCFYI’s style guidelines. Responsibilities include creating graphics and templates, writing copy, light video/audio editing, and fact-checking content before publishing. The Manager will draw from DCFYI’s content bank, propose original ideas, and reach out to staff, volunteers, and participants to gather photos, quotes, and videos. If local, the Manager may attend occasional evening or weekend events to capture content on-site.
The Manager will also monitor and analyze performance data across platforms and suggest improvements and manage community engagement by responding to routine comments and messages.
Qualifications
Required: demonstrated social media management experience; strong copywriting skills; proficiency with Canva (or comparable tool) and Buffer (or comparable scheduler); and basic photo/video editing skills. Nonprofit experience preferred. DMV-area candidates with availability for occasional local events are strongly encouraged to apply.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
