Job Description
Orange is an early-stage startup with a mission of "creating a world where everyone enjoys manga." We develop technology and workflows tailored for manga localization and operate emaqi, a digital manga platform that brings diverse and unique manga to fans.
We are looking for a reliable, proactive part-time team member who loves manga to support emaqi's marketing and community activities in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role will support hands-on event operations, Manga Truck activations, social media content capture and scheduling, community engagement, coordination with event organizers, and ad hoc research.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys manga culture, is comfortable engaging with fans in person, and wants hands-on experience in entertainment, community, and startup marketing.
Responsibilities
1. Event & Manga Truck Support
· Support and, when needed, help lead Manga Truck (mobile manga lounge) activations and promotional events in the Bay Area.
· Assist with event logistics, including preparation, setup, on-site operations, fan engagement, and post-event wrap-up.
· Communicate with event organizers and help coordinate part-time event staff or volunteers as needed.
2. Social & Content Support
· Capture photos and short videos at events and help create social media content for Instagram, X, and other channels.
· Support social media posting and scheduling, including preparing content calendars and using tools such as Buffer or similar platforms.
Community & Research Support
· Conduct primary and desk research on manga/anime trends, local events, community opportunities, and marketing ideas.
· Summarize findings clearly and document next steps, learnings, and recommendations for the team.
· Represent emaqi professionally and help strengthen relationships with manga, anime, and local community partners.
Qualifications
Required
· Strong interest in manga culture; familiarity with anime, comics, conventions, or fan communities is a plus
· Ability to work a few days per week, with flexibility for occasional weekend and holiday events, typically 1-2 times per month.
· Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to travel to event locations and the SF office as needed.
· Valid driver’s license and comfort driving in the Bay Area, including driving or assisting with Manga Truck activations as needed. (Manga Truck is a 22-foot van - no prior experience driving a 22-foot van is needed, but confidence in driving is preferred)
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
· Comfortable using a smartphone to capture photos and videos for social media.
· Reliable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with a positive attitude.
· Currently enrolled in or graduated from a university program, or equivalent practical experience.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice to Have
· Bilingual communication skills in Japanese and English.
· Experience using social media platforms such as Instagram, X, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts.
· Experience creating short-form video content, including Reels, Stories, or event recap posts.
· Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Buffer, or willingness to learn.
· Basic proficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, or simple content calendars.
· Experience with event staffing, community management, or coordinating volunteers/part-time staff.
· Basic research, source judgment, summarization, and documentation skills.
