Job description:
We are seeking experienced professional freelance Math Content Editors to support the evaluation, refinement, and realignment of existing Grades 6-8 and Algebra I instructional materials.
This role is best suited for independent consultants who can dedicate a consistent 30+ hours per week to curriculum development work.
Contractors will ensure content quality, accuracy, alignment to updated standards, and coherence with the client’s instructional calendar and stated educational goals. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong math pedagogy knowledge, curriculum expertise, and experience editing for alignment and instructional intent. The individual must also be comfortable with a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Review and evaluate existing math curriculum materials for clarity, accuracy, grade-level appropriateness, and adherence to math content and pedagogy best practices.
· Realign lessons, units, or assessments to newly updated TEKS, ELPS, and IMRA Quality and Suitability indicators.
· Cross-check content against the client’s instructional calendar to ensure pacing and topic sequencing match required timelines.
· Provide clear, actionable feedback to improve content quality, rigor, and instructional effectiveness.
· Ensure materials are aligned with the project’s learning objectives, client expectations, project style guide directions and expectations, and the project’s stated goals.
· Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or opportunities for enhancement of curriculum within and across lessons or units.
· Collaborate with internal team members (such as project managers, QA staff, and other content developers) to ensure timely completion and revision of content.
· Track and document editorial decisions, suggested revisions, and alignment adjustments.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
· Minimum of 3 years of professional experience editing or developing K–12 math curriculum or instructional materials (outside of or in addition to classroom teaching).
· Demonstrated experience working as a freelancer, contractor, or in a production-based content development environment.
· Deep understanding of grade-band-specific math standards and instructional shifts.
· Experience working with or aligning math content to the TEKS and ELPS and familiarity with instructional calendars and scope and sequence maps.
· Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage editorial tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
· Prior experience with project-based freelance or contract work preferred.
· Bilingual fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required.
Contract Details
· Project-based contract (hourly or milestone-based, depending on project needs).
· Flexible hours; must meet deadlines and availability requirements as agreed upon at contract start.
· Remote work; must have reliable Internet and access to standard editing tools.
· Contractors will be expected to integrate into a structured workflow with defined deliverables and turnaround times.
