About the Role
Seeking an experienced Freelance Technical Designer with deep expertise in bra foundations and intimate apparel construction to support ongoing product development across bras, underwear, and sleepwear.
This is a part-time freelance position. In-person attendance is required for fittings, which take place on select weekday mornings between 9:00–11:00am on the Upper West Side (not daily — only when fittings are scheduled). All additional follow-up work may be completed remotely.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of bra construction (wireless, molded, sheer, bonded, elastic engineering, support structures), understands grading across band and cup sizes, and is confident leading detailed fit sessions.
This role requires both technical precision and proactive ownership across development.
Core Responsibilities
Fit & Development
- Attend and lead in-person fittings (weekday mornings, UWS Manhattan, approx. 9–11am as scheduled)
- Evaluate proto, fit, size set, and TOP samples
- Analyze fit across core and extended sizes (including full bust/DD+)
- Identify grading, support, and construction issues and propose solutions
- Ensure consistency across bra blocks and franchise platforms
Technical Package Management
- Create, update, and maintain detailed tech packs (POMs, grading, construction notes)
- Document all fit comments clearly and accurately after each fitting
- Issue graded specifications and maintain version control
- Track fit history and block evolution by style
Factory Communication & Development Tracking
- Communicate technical comments and clarifications to overseas factories
- Track sample status, key dates, and development milestones
- Follow up on open technical questions (measurements, trims, bonding, elastics, materials)
- Maintain organized trackers and meeting notes
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product leadership to execute fit intent
- Support wear testing and incorporate feedback into pattern refinement
- Help uphold brand fit standards and customer expectations
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of technical design experience, specifically in bras/intimate apparel
- Strong understanding of bra construction (wireless, underwire, molded, sheer, bonded)
- Deep knowledge of grading across band/cup size matrices
- Experience with stretch textiles, elastics, and performance fabrics
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Clear communicator with overseas factory experience
- Proficient in Illustrator and tech pack creation (PLM experience a plus)
- Comfortable working independently in a freelance capacity
- Ability to work part-time and also take on additional hours (fulltime hours) during peak periods of development.
- Speaks Chinese / Mandarin is a plus.
