Freelance Creative Director (Digital-First)
We are looking for a highly conceptual, execution-focused
Freelance Creative Director to lead digital-first brand and campaign experiences across e-commerce, performance marketing, and social channels. You will set the creative vision and oversee delivery of high-impact assets that drive engagement, conversion, and long-term brand equity in a modern retail environment.
This role is ideal for a strategic, hands-on leader with deep experience in digital retail or fashion, who can connect brand storytelling with data-driven performance in a fast-paced, test-and-learn culture.
Key Responsibilities - Digital Brand Vision & Narrative
- Define the overarching creative vision for digital campaigns, content series, and always-on brand communication.
- Translate business objectives, assortment strategies, and promo priorities into compelling creative platforms and narratives.
- Shape a distinctive digital brand language that balances style, clarity, and commercial impact.
- E-Commerce & Product Storytelling
- Lead creative direction for core e-commerce experiences including homepages, landing pages, product storytelling modules, and guided discovery flows.
- Partner with UX and product teams to ensure creative elevates usability, merchandising, and conversion.
- Craft modular systems for seasonal storytelling, gifting, and trend content that can be easily refreshed and scaled.
- Performance & Lifecycle Creative
- Concept and direct digital campaigns across paid social, display, video, email, app, and onsite placements.
- Develop creative frameworks for acquisition, reactivation, and retention programs, including lifecycle and CRM comms.
- Create channel-specific variations that respect platform best practices while maintaining a unified brand voice.
- Content, Social & Motion
- Own creative direction for organic social and content series, with a focus on vertical video, stories, and shoppable formats.
- Oversee motion design and short-form content that highlight key products, collections, and promotions.
- Collaborate with in-house and freelance creators, stylists, and photographers to deliver fresh, platform-native content.
- Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary creative team (design, art direction, copy, motion, and production).
- Partner closely with marketing, merchandising, growth, and product teams to align creative with roadmaps and KPIs.
- Present work and rationale to senior stakeholders, incorporating feedback while safeguarding creative integrity.
- Optimization, Systems & Scale
- Develop creative systems, toolkits, and guidelines that ensure consistency across high volumes of digital assets.
- Collaborate with analytics and growth teams to test creative hypotheses, interpret results, and iterate quickly.
- Champion a culture of experimentation, leveraging A/B testing and insights to refine messaging, visuals, and formats.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of creative experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing digital campaigns and experiences.
- Background in retail, fashion, or e-commerce with a strong understanding of digital merchandising and shopper behavior.
- Proven success delivering digital-first concepts across web, app, email, social, and paid media.
- Portfolio demonstrating integrated digital work, including performance-driven campaigns and content ecosystems.
- Comfortable using performance data, testing methodologies, and customer insights to inform creative decisions.
- Track record of leading, inspiring, and developing creative talent in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
- Exceptional storytelling, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
