Job Description
Associate Creative Director (Freelance)
This freelance Associate Creative Director role is ideal for a hands-on creative leader who lives at the intersection of social, content, and culture. You’ll own concept development from brief to delivery, guide a small team of creatives, and shape visually compelling work across social, digital, and integrated campaigns.
Role Overview
As an Associate Creative Director, you will bring original, platform-native ideas to life and uphold the creative standard for the team. You are an expert visual storyteller who can define the aesthetic direction for everything from a single piece of content to full-funnel 360 campaigns. You’re equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves to create as you are mentoring others, and you know how to sell work in clearly and confidently to clients.
You will report into a Creative Director and partner closely with strategy, account, production, and creator/influencer teams to ensure the work is cohesive, on-brief, and culturally relevant.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Development & Concept Ideation (40%) Develop and pitch breakthrough creative concepts that answer client briefs in unexpected, social-first ways. Translate insights, strategy, and cultural trends into ideas that can flex across formats: film, digital, social, experiential, and creator-led campaigns.
- Content & Creative Production (25%) Own the creative through pre-production, production, and post. Create or oversee storyboards, shot lists, mood boards, and design direction. Partner with creators, influencers, and production partners to ensure the final deliverables stay true to the original vision and are optimized for each platform.
- Supervision & Team Management (25%) Lead and mentor junior and mid-level creatives, providing thoughtful feedback and clear direction. Help elevate the overall craft of the team by sharing best practices, coaching in real time, and fostering an environment that encourages experimentation and curiosity.
- Client Relations (10%) Present work to clients with clarity and confidence, telling a compelling story around the insight, idea, and execution. Build strong relationships based on trust, partnership, and a shared commitment to outstanding creative work.
What You’ll Bring
- Social-first mindset: Deep understanding of social platforms, emerging formats, algorithms, and audience behaviors. Ability to translate this knowledge into ideas that drive engagement and build communities.
- Visual leadership: Proven ability to set and maintain a cohesive visual direction across campaigns, ensuring all assets feel part of the same world, regardless of channel.
- Production experience: Track record leading creative across pre-production, production, and post for video, photo, and digital content.
- Collaboration & culture: Passion for building inclusive, future-ready creative teams and workflows, and interest in experimenting with new tools, including AI-powered solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Associate Creative Director will directly manage junior members of the Creative and Creator teams, providing feedback, mentorship, and day-to-day direction.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of experience in creative and content production for brands in an agency or in-house environment
- Portfolio showcasing strong branded content and advertising work across social, digital, and video
- Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)
- Strong presentation design skills in Google Slides, PowerPoint, and/or Keynote
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Exceptional attention to detail and a highly collaborative working style
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident storyteller in client-facing settings
- Experience providing creative direction on photo and video shoots
This is a freelance position with the expectation of close collaboration with internal teams and external partners, contributing to high-impact, social-led creative work.
