We are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails Developer to join our network of independent experts. This is a freelance/contract role ideal for someone who is confident in their abilities, comfortable discussing and defending technical decisions, and equally comfortable accepting feedback. This role is fully remote, but candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and reside within the US.
Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.

Collaborate with designers, project managers, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality solutions.

Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following industry best practices.

Participate in architectural discussions and advocate for thoughtful technical solutions.

Optimize applications for performance, security, and reliability.

Review code, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to a positive team culture.
Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:

Must reside in the United States and be authorized to work in the US.

Currently working as a full-time freelancer or independent contractor.

Available for meetings during 9:00–5:00 pm CST, weekdays.

2–5 years of professional experience with Ruby on Rails.

Strong understanding of MVC architecture, RESTful APIs, and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

Experience writing automated tests (RSpec or similar).

Solid development habits, including Git/Git-flow, meaningful commits, and code reviews.

Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and architectural decisions.

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to give and receive feedback respectfully.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, React, or Hotwire.

Familiarity with background job processing (Sidekiq, Active Job).

Experience deploying and maintaining Rails applications in cloud environments (AWS, Heroku, etc.).

Knowledge of performance tuning, security best practices, and scaling Rails applications.

Prior experience working with agencies or consulting teams.
What Might Be Different About Partnering with Lelander:

Independent experts are paid an agreed hourly rate and typically work 10 - 40 hours per week.

Hours are flexible and depend on project needs and your availability (hours are not guaranteed).

Lelander’s business hours are 9:00–5:00 pm CST, and availability during that window is preferred.

This is a long-term contracting opportunity for freelancers looking for stability, flexibility, and meaningful work.
