North Dallas Gazette Copy Editor / Page Designer
Dallas-based minority newspaper is in need of a part-time, freelance copy editor and page designer. Duties include layout out of a weekly newspaper, prepping editorial copy and photos for publication, and posting the articles to the newspaper's website.
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop is required. Knowledge of Wordpress and social media and email marketing service platforms is a plus.
Work Schedule and Hourly Rate
20-25 hours weekly (Editorial Projects and Office task)
Pay: $13.00 Per Hour
-Mon thru Friday
-Office hours: TBD – after consultation of class schedule
Responsibilities
Editorial Projects:
· Rewrite press releases, removing sales message, keeping brief while providing key info necessary for readers.
· Attend local events - prepare a brief write up and at least five photos to choose from.
· Brief phone interviews to prepare a short story for the website and/or print edition.
· When stories are in the headline related to stories NDG has covered, write a recap and link NDG’s story to the updated info.
City Council Meetings
· Attend the Dallas City Council Meetings on Wednesdays at 9 a.m.; story due by 3 p.m. same day.
· The agendas are released a week in advance, on Fridays sent a summary and spotlight at least two topics you believe we should cover. Due to editor by 6 p.m. on Fridays.

Assist with weekly Newsletter
Submit Stories to NNPA
Social Media Channels & Tools will include:
● Facebook ● Instagram ● Twitter ● Pinterest - although we ignore the network visitors regularly share our limited content and add more ● LinkedIn - reshare any business-related stories, maybe our cover ● Hootsuite - This is a tool you can use to “schedule” the post to go out on specific days and times; vary the time of day used so we can try to determine the best time for certain content. Qualifications
A mature, stable and professional with a good deposition with interest in Media and Publishing Career. Also, in depth acknowledge and experience in Social media posting and responding to comments is a plus.
