Freelance Higher-Education Grant Writer / Pre-Award Consultant

GlobalSource IT is working with higher-education institutions seeking experienced freelance grant writers with strong Pre-Award expertise to support federal, state, and foundation funding initiatives.

This is a contract consulting opportunity and may be part-time or full-time, depending on scope, timing, and availability.

What you’ll be doing

Lead Pre-Award grant development efforts for colleges and universities
Conduct grant prospecting and funding research aligned to institutional priorities
Perform Go / No-Go analysis and support funding strategy decisions
Develop and submit competitive grant applications, including:
Narratives and technical sections
Budgets and budget justifications
Supporting documentation and compliance materials
Coordinate with stakeholders across academic, finance, research, and administrative teams
Manage timelines and submissions across federal, state, and foundation portals
Provide guidance on Pre-Award processes and, as needed, light post-award transition support

Experience we’re looking for

Demonstrated experience writing and managing higher-education grant proposals
Strong background in Pre-Award grant development
Familiarity with federal and state funding programs (e.g., Department of Education, NSF, workforce, and infrastructure programs)
Hands-on experience with grant submission portals such as grants.gov, research.gov, eRA Commons, and related systems
Experience working within Ellucian and/or Banner environments is strongly preferred
Ability to translate institutional goals into clear, fundable proposals
Comfortable working independently as a freelance consultant in collaborative environments
