We’re seeking a freelance UI/UX Designer to join our team. This role will help ensure that all elements of the online user experience are optimized for improved usability, usefulness, and exceptional visual design. You’ll play a pivotal role on our team bringing curiosity, problem-solving, and a user-centered mindset to our product development process, ensuring that our digital experiences align with the needs and expectations of our diverse user base.
This is a remote position. While we offer flexibility in your day-to-day schedule, availability during Eastern Time Zone business hours is required.
Rate: $50-80/hr
Key Responsibilities:
User Research and Usability Testing:
- Conduct user research both independently and collaboratively with the Research and Strategy team to understand the needs, behaviors, and pain points of our target audiences via qualitative and quantitative research
- Collaborate with the Research and Strategy team to develop strategy, ideation, and/or user personas that inform design decisions
- Conduct usability testing to evaluate the effectiveness and usability of designs with real users to identify usability issues, validate design decisions, and iteratively improve the user experience.
- Create client-facing communications to help share insights, which can include presentations and dashboards
Information Architecture, Wireframing, and Prototyping:
- Develop IAs to organize and structure information in a logical and intuitive manner, making it easy for users to navigate and find what they need
- Use wireframing tools to create low-fidelity representations of user interfaces, focusing on layout, structure, and content organization
- Create hi-fidelity mockups using prototyping tools that simulate the user experience, allowing both the team and client to test ideas, gather feedback, and iterate quickly before moving to the final design phase.
Interactive and Visual Design:
- Analyze data and metrics to gain insights into user behavior, identify patterns, and make informed design decisions
- Develop and implement intuitive and seamless interaction involving functionality, transitions, and animations to prototypes to simulate the user experience to enhance user engagement
- In coordination with our creative team, create visually appealing designs that align with brand guidelines and design principles to create polished and cohesive interfaces
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the internal Bellweather teams, external partners, and clients as necessary, to align UI/UX solutions with client goals
- Clearly articulate design decisions and rationale to cross-functional teams and at the client level
Accessibility and Inclusivity:
- Understanding and inclusion of accessibility and inclusivity in design, ensuring that our products are usable by a diverse audience
- Understanding and implementation of WCAG 2.2 and ADA compliance standards for design
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field; or a mix of applicable experience and education.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a UI/UX Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your user-driven design.
- Proficient in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present and defend design decisions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong time management skills for prioritizing tasks, setting realistic timelines, and staying organized throughout the design process
- Stays updated with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in UI/UX design and incorporates them into your work
