Position Summary
Amber Charter Schools is looking for a bold, imaginative
Social Media Manager on a freelance contract basis to help amplify the voices, stories, and everyday magic happening across our school communities. If you love capturing authentic moments, crafting compelling visuals, and shaping narratives that inspire families and followers alike, this role puts you at the heart of our digital storytelling.
You'll play a key role in bringing our mission to life online, celebrating student success, showcasing our vibrant culture, and highlighting the impact of our educators and programs across multiple platforms.
This role requires availability for monthly onsite visits in New York City.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Capturing original content that reflects the energy and diversity of our schools
- Editing photos and simple reels, drafting engaging captions, and managing monthly content calendars via Instagram and Facebook (Meta Business Suite)
- Creating on-brand social media assets including graphics, short-form videos, stories, and more
- Supporting content planning and execution across Instagram, Facebook, our website, and LinkedIn
- Documenting school events, classroom moments, and community activities as needed
- Collaborating with internal teams to align content with campaigns, initiatives, and milestones
- Editing and optimizing content for platform best practices
- Maintaining a consistent tone, voice, and visual identity across all channels
- Tracking basic performance metrics and adjusting content based on engagement trends
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- 1 year of related experience
- H.S Diploma or GED
- Proven experience creating social media content for brands, organizations, or schools
- Strong visual storytelling and copywriting skills
- Proficiency with design/editing tools such as Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Suite, CapCut, etc.
- Solid understanding of social media trends and platform best practices
- Ability to manage deadlines independently and respond to feedback
- Willingness to attend occasional evening events
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Successful completion of NYS fingerprinting
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience in education or mission-driven organizations
- Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Familiarity with multicultural communities
- Experience with basic analytics tools
- Comfort capturing content in fast-paced environments
Amber's Expectations:
- This role requires availability for monthly onsite visits in New York City.
- Ability to independently manage your own schedule and a predictable monthly creative workflow with minimal oversight
- Maintain a professional appearance while at Amber Charter Schools properties and events
- Successfully generate content that communicates Amber's culture, that is, the Amber Traits of Achievement, Community, Responsibility, Honesty, and Respect

Work Schedule
- Onsite, hands-on work across all campuses
- Approximately 20 hours per month
- Role runs through June 2026 with potential extension
Work Environment/Physical Effort:
- Regularly required to sit, stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, speak loudly and clearly, visually observe, hear, operate a computer, and other classroom, school and office equipment, reach with hands and arms, bend down, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 20 pounds. Work is being performed in a traditional multi-floor school environment with limited to no elevator access.
Compensation:
Amber Charter Schools strictly follow a salary schedule for each role to ensure our continued commitment towards pay equity. The expected hourly rate for this role is $45- $60 depending on experience. This is a temporary, contract position.
