About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Managing Editor (temporary role) to take the lead in managing the editorial execution across our brand's site and social channels. This role offers the opportunity to build and expand our brand's presence while maintaining a focus on creative strategy and growth.
As the Managing Editor, you will be responsible for ensuring that all editorial content, from daily website updates to social media posts, is aligned with our brand's voice and goals. You will collaborate closely with our Social Media Manager to plan, schedule, and grow our online audience, as well as work hand-in-hand with our Editor-in-Chief on branded content ideas and RFP submissions.
Responsibilities:
- Overall accountability for the management and editorial execution both internally and externally of brand's site and social channels primarily
- Building on editorial opportunities with a focus on brand growth
- Building on the brand's creative strategy to grow the brand
- Editing content daily for the website and collaborating with video and social to ensure content is aligned with HL
- Working in collaboration with the brand's Social Media Manager to plan, schedule, and grow social audiences, posting on the accounts as needed
- Collaborate with the Editor in Chief, as needed, on any proactive branded ideas along with RFP submissions
- Manage monthly freelance budget
- Great team player that is able to work collaboratively across teams and departments to produce and monetize editorial content
- Work with video producer and video content creators for HL original franchises and regular news content by developing timely ideas and collaborating on scripts
- Review HL pitches email to continue growing freelance team
- Ensure content for the weekend is scheduled on the website and IG/FB
- Stay engaged with the latest news and social media trends within the Latinx community for both social and/or editorial content
Qualifications:
- Conversational Spanish
- Excellent writing and grammar skills
- Strong research and fact-checking skills to ensure accuracy and originality
- Demonstrable understanding of Instagram and TikTok features, best practices, creator tools (such as CapCut), culture, including popular trends, memes, and sports communities.
- A strong point of view on what it takes to entertain audiences
- Strong sense of color, layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and storytelling
- Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and externally

Required Skills/Abilities:
- Editing and proofreading skills with an eye for detail and accuracy
- Solid understanding of fact-checking procedures and commitment to maintaining factual integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Proficient with Google Docs
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
- At least 3 years of experience in Latinx media
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $40.00- $45.67 an hour based on a 40 hour work week.
