East of the Cascades, a website exploring local culture in central and eastern Washington, is building out a roster of freelance writers.
We need writers who can provide engaging stories and photos about food, beer, wine, spirits, arts, events and personalities in places like Yakima, Walla Walla, Tri-Cities and Leavenworth.
At the top of the scale, we pay up to $300 for a 600-word story illustrated by three or more photos, accompanied by a short video we can use to promote the story on social media. Rates vary depending on the length of the story and the number of photos published.
You’ll be working via phone and email with our East of the Cascades editor. Payment is made monthly after publication of your work.
EOTC is a joint publication of the Seattle Times affiliate newspapers – the Yakima Herald-Republic and the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin. The website is about to undergo a redesign, but you can see our previous work at eastofthecascades.com.
We need work that meets accepted journalistic standards for accuracy, independence and transparency. This isn’t promotional content; it’s news reporting.
The new EOTC site should launch before the end of 2024. If you’re interested in becoming a contributor, send your resume and links to me for review:
