About Miami MoCAAD
Miami MoCAAD—the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora—connects audiences with contemporary art, artists, ideas, and cultural experiences rooted in the African Diaspora. The organization is building an accessible, digitally engaged museum experience and seeks communications that make artists and their work more visible while also making Miami MoCAAD’s mission, relevance, and opportunities for participation clear.
The opportunity
Miami MoCAAD is seeking a Social Content Creator to bring the museum, its artists, and its community into the world through authentic, human-led digital storytelling.
This is not a traditional influencer placement and it is not a scheduling-only social-media role. We are looking for a creator who can develop original vertical video, conduct thoughtful interviews, capture events and community moments, and adapt one story for different platforms without flattening its meaning.
The ideal candidate understands that a strong personal following is not the main objective. The work should build meaningful interest in Miami MoCAAD, its artists, its programs, and its mission. A smaller, engaged, locally relevant audience and a trusted community presence may be more valuable than a large but weakly aligned following.
The initial opportunity is especially focused on supporting Give Miami Day, November 14–19. Give Miami Day may serve as a paid beta project and the beginning of a provisional engagement.
What you will do
Create original, human-led content- Produce authentic vertical video for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
- Capture artist, curator, partner, visitor, donor, and community voices.
- Conduct short interviews and on-camera conversations that make art and culture accessible without oversimplifying the work.
- Develop portrait-style, talking-head, behind-the-scenes, event, process, and community-story formats.
- Capture content on location in Miami when appropriate, including events, partner spaces, and community settings.
- Edit mobile-first video with strong openings, clear storylines, useful pacing, captions, and accessible presentation.
- Develop concepts that show both the artist or cultural story and why Miami MoCAAD matters.
Adapt stories by platform- Treat Instagram as a visual discovery and participation channel.
- Use YouTube for stronger hooks, searchable storytelling, replayable depth, and subscriber growth.
- Adapt content for Facebook with community utility, event information, sharing value, and clear actions.
- Adapt content for LinkedIn with institutional, professional, partnership, and cultural-impact relevance.
- Avoid copying the same post or caption across every platform without a reason.
- Provide a clear call to action and destination for priority content, such as an event RSVP, donation page, newsletter, Artist Guide, Digital Artist Library, or other approved resource.
Support campaigns and community engagement- Contribute original content and creative ideas for Give Miami Day and Soul Basel.
- Help retain and deepen relationships with existing donors, artists, partners, and community members.
- Create donor- and community-centered stories that support campaign goals without reducing the work to generic fundraising language.
- Monitor priority posts after publication and participate in the first 24 hours of conversation.
- Respond thoughtfully to comments and messages within approved guidelines.
- Thank and engage artists, partners, donors, and community members.
- Surface useful audience feedback, questions, and relationship opportunities to the team.
Learn, test, and improve- Review performance data and distinguish activity from outcomes.
- Form practical hypotheses about hooks, formats, stories, CTAs, timing, and distribution.
- Run focused tests and document what was learned.
- Track meaningful signals such as watch time, retention, saves, shares, comments, qualified traffic, subscriber or follower conversion, event RSVPs, donations, and newsletter actions where data is available.
- Report not only what was posted, but what happened, what may have caused the result, and what should happen next.
- Study relevant museums, cultural organizations, Black and African-diaspora art communicators, and Miami community accounts for patterns worth adapting—not copying.
Work responsibly with AI and digital tools- Use AI tools to support editing, clipping, research, ideation, repurposing, organization, caption drafts, audience-feedback analysis, and performance reporting.
- Explain where AI improves speed or leverage and where human judgment is required.
- Verify artist names, biographies, quotes, dates, cultural references, claims, captions, and calls to action before publication.
- Protect artist intent, cultural context, rights, consent, accessibility, and institutional accuracy.
- Work collaboratively with an operations/automation resource as Miami MoCAAD develops more efficient content and reporting workflows.
Qualifications
Required- Demonstrated experience creating authentic vertical video for social platforms, whether professionally, independently, or through a strong portfolio.
- Evidence of on-camera presence, interviewing, community storytelling, or the ability to direct and capture compelling human stories.
- Strong visual and editorial instincts: hooks, pacing, framing, sound, captions, music, visual detail, and story structure.
- Experience managing or materially influencing at least one social account, campaign, or content program.
- Ability to provide evidence of audience response or results, not only attractive samples or view counts.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, organize files, and communicate clearly in a small, evolving organization.
- Basic understanding of platform metrics and the difference between reach, engagement, retention, conversion, and audience growth.
- Willingness to monitor and engage with the audience after publishing.
- Comfort using AI tools as part of a modern creative workflow, with human review and fact-checking.
- Respect for artists, copyright, permissions, consent, accessibility, cultural context, and institutional accuracy.
- Genuine interest in Miami’s arts, cultural, and community landscape.
Strongly preferred- Miami-based and able to attend selected events, interviews, or capture opportunities in person.
- Experience with museums, galleries, cultural organizations, arts education, Black/African-diaspora art, community organizations, journalism, documentary work, or local storytelling.
- Experience creating content for or speaking to a Miami audience.
- Experience with Give Miami Day, nonprofit fundraising, event promotion, donor communications, or community campaigns.
- Experience with both Instagram and YouTube, including Shorts, titles, hooks, retention, and subscriber conversion.
- Familiarity with Facebook and LinkedIn content adaptation.
- Experience interviewing artists, curators, cultural workers, partners, or community members.
- A relevant local network, partnership mindset, or trusted community relationships.
- Comfort testing ideas, reviewing data, and changing direction when the evidence calls for it.
Not required- A formal art-history degree.
- Employment at a museum or large nonprofit.
- A large personal following.
- Experience on every social platform.
- Advanced coding, data science, or automation-engineering skills.
- A polished personal-brand presence, provided the candidate can show strong work and audience judgment.
Portfolio and application requirementsPlease submit the following with your application:

- One example of meaningful engagement after publishing: a conversation, relationship, response pattern, conversion, or community outcome.
- A short description of one test or hypothesis you ran and what you learned.
- A brief explanation of one real AI-supported workflow you use in creative or social-media work, including how you verify the output.
- A short observation about a museum, cultural organization, Miami arts account, or Black/African-diaspora art account that Miami MoCAAD could learn from.

- Your current location and availability for Miami-based work, events, or interviews.
- Your anticipated compensation or project-rate expectations, if requested in the application process.
