DU & BERRY | New York, NY
Position Type: Freelance / Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation: $20–$50/hour or project-based, depending on experience and scope
Schedule: Flexible, project-based
Location: Remote / New York-based preferred
DU & BERRY is an independent New York-based womenswear brand. We are looking for a freelance fashion copywriter who understands contemporary womenswear and can bring a strong editorial perspective to our brand communications. You'll work with our marketing team on everything from product descriptions and website copy to seasonal campaigns, newsletters, and social media.
We're looking for someone who appreciates good design, pays attention to the details, and knows how to turn creative ideas into clear, engaging writing that feels true to the brand.
Responsibilities
- Write product descriptions (PDP) that highlight design details, materials, craftsmanship, and styling versatility.
- Develop and refine website copy, including About Us, homepage, collection pages, and landing pages.
- Create copy for newsletters, product launches, and seasonal marketing campaigns.
- Write headlines, taglines, and campaign copy for digital advertising and other marketing materials.
- Develop social media captions that reflect the brand's personality and visual direction.
- Work with the Creative Director and marketing team on assigned projects to maintain a consistent brand voice.
- Help refine the brand's tone of voice and overall messaging across different channels.
Qualifications
- Experience in fashion copywriting, editorial writing, brand communications, or a related field.
- A strong portfolio with examples of fashion, lifestyle, or brand-focused writing.
- Excellent written English and a good understanding of tone, style, and storytelling.
- A genuine interest in contemporary fashion, design, textiles, and craftsmanship.
- Ability to communicate product details and design concepts clearly and naturally.
- Familiarity with writing for e-commerce, social media, email marketing, and advertising.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently, incorporate feedback, and meet deadlines.
Experience with independent designer brands, contemporary womenswear, or luxury fashion is a plus. Knowledge of knitwear, garment construction, SEO, or brand voice development would also be valuable.
What We're Looking For
We appreciate writing that is thoughtful, distinctive, and natural.
Good fashion copy should do more than describe a product. It should reflect the thinking behind the design, communicate what makes a piece special, and connect with the customer without sounding overly promotional.
We're looking for someone with a strong point of view who can also understand and adapt to our brand's identity.
Freelance Engagement
This is a project-based, independent contractor (1099) opportunity.
Projects will be offered based on business needs, with deliverables, timelines, and compensation agreed upon in advance. The freelancer will work independently and manage their own schedule while collaborating with our team on creative direction and feedback.
We look forward to seeing your work!
