Location: Remote
Position Type: Part-Time Contract (15-20 hours per week)
Contract Duration: ASAP through mid-2027
Hours: Approximately 15–20 hours per week
Seeking an experienced, creative, and culturally knowledgeable Content Writer to support the development of educational resource guides for diverse multicultural communities.
This individual will be responsible for transforming existing research, educational materials, and complex subject matter into clear, accessible, and culturally relevant content that resonates with specific audiences, including Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other multicultural communities.
The ideal candidate is a skilled consumer-facing writer who understands how to communicate complicated information in plain language while considering the cultural backgrounds, family dynamics, experiences, and unique needs of the communities being served.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced content writer, multicultural communications specialist, or community-focused content developer who is passionate about creating meaningful educational resources that empower individuals and families.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Writing
- Develop comprehensive, approximately 10-page educational resource guides using existing research, reports, and content.
- Translate complex topics, including Social Security, aging, caregiving, financial security, and other relevant subjects, into clear, concise, consumer-friendly language.
- Create engaging, informative, and actionable content that helps individuals and families understand how important topics apply to their circumstances.
- Organize and structure information logically to ensure readability, accessibility, and ease of use.
- Maintain consistency in formatting, messaging, and overall quality across multiple resource guides.
- Adapt existing research and materials into practical educational content rather than simply summarizing or reproducing source information.
Multicultural Content Adaptation
- Tailor educational materials to meet the specific needs, experiences, and cultural considerations of diverse audiences.
- Develop content that reflects an understanding of the unique circumstances, family structures, communication preferences, and informational needs of particular multicultural communities.
- Ensure materials are culturally relevant, respectful, inclusive, and appropriate for their intended audiences.
- Go beyond direct translation by thoughtfully adapting messaging, examples, context, and resources to make information meaningful and relatable.
- Incorporate community-specific considerations and practical examples that help readers understand how broader topics affect their families and communities.
- Collaborate with individuals who possess expertise in specific multicultural communities to validate content accuracy, relevance, and appropriateness.
Research & Content Interpretation
- Review and synthesize existing research, reports, educational materials, and supporting resources.
- Identify the most relevant information for each target audience and determine how best to communicate it.
- Distill complicated concepts into understandable explanations without sacrificing accuracy or important context.
- Ensure all written materials are factually accurate, well-organized, and aligned with established project objectives.
- Identify information gaps and collaborate with project stakeholders to obtain necessary clarification or additional context.
Collaboration & Quality Assurance
- Work closely with the hiring manager, project contributors, and community subject matter experts throughout the content development process.
- Participate in periodic project meetings, anticipated to occur approximately once per week.
- Contribute to content reviews and quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and cultural relevance.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback and make revisions as needed.
- Follow a shared guide format and content development approach while adapting the messaging for different communities.
- Collaborate with other contributors to share insights, recommendations, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated professional experience in content writing, educational communications, health communications, multicultural communications, or a closely related field.
- Strong experience developing consumer-facing content using plain-language writing principles.
- Proven ability to create, adapt, or tailor content for specific multicultural communities or diverse audiences.
- Experience translating complex research, technical information, policies, or educational subject matter into accessible, easy-to-understand content.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural context, needs, and considerations of the intended audience.
- Strong research, writing, editing, proofreading, and information-synthesis skills.
- Experience developing educational materials, resource guides, toolkits, informational publications, or similar long-form content.
- Ability to maintain accuracy while simplifying complicated information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to manage deadlines and deliver high-quality work within an established project framework.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing content specifically for Hispanic/Latino, Chinese, Vietnamese, or other multicultural communities.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or other languages relevant to the target audiences.
- Background in public health communications, community education, nonprofit communications, social services, or multicultural outreach.
- Familiarity with topics relevant to older adults and their families, including Social Security, Medicare, caregiving, retirement planning, and financial well-being.
- Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, community-based organizations, or public service initiatives.
- Familiarity with health literacy, accessibility, inclusive communications, and culturally responsive writing practices.
- Experience working with community subject matter experts or culturally diverse stakeholder groups.
- Previous experience creating materials designed to reach underserved or historically underrepresented populations.
Please Note: Bilingual or multilingual proficiency is beneficial but is not required. Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with and creating relevant content for multicultural audiences is more important than a candidate's personal or linguistic background.
